On the mend!

Last Thursday I had my post-op, follow up appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon and the good news is that everything appears to be healing well.

Both he and the physiotherapist advised me that I should continue using my walker until I feel confident and strong enough to graduate to a cane. I still have to work at building up the muscles on my operated hip/leg because I was only able to put 40 pounds of weight on it while it was healing. As of now, it appears as though I won't need to see a physiotherapist, provided that I continue to do the exercises that they prescribed for me.

What a relief and load off my mind!!!

I don't want to rush things and I can't believe I'm saying this but I think I'll wait for a while before attempting the stairs to visit my sewing room. I'm so afraid of rushing things and overdoing it.  I've waited this long so what's a few more days?

So I figured some retail therapy was in order.

To celebrate my new found freedom, Mr. Painted Quilt took me shopping today...his suggestion if you can believe it...and look what came home with me!
Half yard cuts of Kim Diehl's new fabric line called Heritage Hollow!

I just love the colors and the fact that all of the fabrics from her different lines are interchangeable and work so well together.  And I think I know exactly what I'm going to make with them...once I finish my Down in the Garden quilt.

The gazillion stitchery blocks are done so let the piecing begin!

Happy stitching!

  4. Great news from that follow-up appointment! I definitely recommend gradually putting that leg/hip back to use. You don't want to go backwards on the healing! Can't wait to see your Garden Quilt finished and what you have in mind with your newly acquired Kim Diehl fabrics!

  13. I'm so glad for your good news! And I love all your new fabrics -- Kim's colours are all so nice and warm.

I am impressed that you have all the big stitcheries done now on DitG! It will be fun to get them all together now with some fabric. What about the little stitcheries? Will you do them all too? I have been thinking I can do without some of them.

You can tackle the stairs when you feel ready, and in the meantime new fabric is a good way to celebrate. Love Kim's stuff.
In fact, I thought you were going to use it WITH your stitched blocks, and thought they went well together. : )

  18. Great news Kaaren! I'm glad it is up hill from here for you! I had my second hip replaced last October due to illness. I think you might be making a mistake by not going for physical therapy. It is immensely helpful over in addition to doing home exercise. Everyone is different but I suspect that if I had done just home exercise and no PT, I would not be doing as well as I am today. PT did a lot of muscle stretching and conditioning on me that I couldn't have done myself. I really recommend you be evaluated at least to see if PT would be helpful to you before you make your decision not to do it. Just a thought...
