The heat and humidity hit records in some areas and one would think that with living as close to the sea as we do, we would have experienced at least a little breeze, but the air was virtually still. Sleeping was fitful and outdoor work came to a standstill.
And so did my sewing!
Being that my sewing studio is upstairs...and heat rises...there was no way that I was going to torture myself up there in front of my machine. As a result, I didn't get as much accomplished with the next step to my mystery quilt as I would have liked. Everything is made, now I just have to sew it to the quilt-in-progress. It should be done in the next couple of days although the humidity seems to be back today. Yuck!
While on the topic of my mystery quilt, the template for the Dresden plate 'petal' that I included with the photos and instructions in the PDF to Step 3 appears to not want to print to the actual size. I apologize for this but as you probably all know by now, I am NOT a computer guru, nor do I pretend to be so I try to compensate by offering alternative plans of action. I do my best but had a feeling that this might happen and that is why I included the measurements to the 'petal' in order that you could draw your own.
Tuesday is the 1st day of September! Bring on fall and the cooler weather!
I decided that I needed some touches of Autumn around the house, so I started...albeit a little early...with some of my fall decorating.
Ollie says, "Bring it on!"?
Happy stitching!

I can hear Ollie--"Enough of these dog days of summer!" : )
Love the autumn atmosphere you are adding to your home. It is never too early for Fall, IMHO.
Autumn is my favorite season, so I agree, it is never too early! Love your touches around your cozy home.
We've had an extremely hot summer out west also. Yesterday a rain and windstorm blew through cooling things off but also bringing a lot of damage and power outages to the Vancouver area.
Happy to say I've got power and no damage but sadly several of my friends have been without for almost twenty four hours.
Ollie looks like he is ready for the cold temps and stove to be on :)
Having lived in Florida before, you know the only way we get a real sense for the seasonal changes is in our decor. Won't be long and I'll be changing the outdoor garden flags and a few things indoors.
Nice to see the house get an autumn house dressing! It has sure been a hot month, so I totally understand why you didn't do a lot of sewing. I'm sure there will be many cooler days ahead!
Prayers for lower humidity and a cool sewing room
Size isn't an issue when graph paper is your friend. I always keeps some around. :)
Love the autumn decorating. Ollie sure looks like he is over the heat - poor wee chap!
Thanks for always brightening my day!
I hate to see summer end, but when the heat and humidity are that bad one can wish for it. The fall decorating may cool things off - even if it doesn't happen for real!
Looking beautiful! We are heading into spring here in New Zealand.
San Francisco Bay Area California USA we live on the water and our climate is Mediterranean warm/hot dry summers cool/cold winters. Our small house has no air conditioning usually we get a sea breeze (wind off the Pacific Ocean) every afternoon but a very few days a year we get off shore winds that's hot air blowing from our hot hot Central Valley out to sea those days and night are terrible.. Right now there are no fires in our area so our air is clear but we don't get our rain until October / November so fire season is here for awhile yet
trust you are now feeling better, good to know some had a hot summer, here in UK at least th orth of UK we are still waiting so no hope! Even wore my winter coat one day this month.
your home looks so welcoming
Que bonitas fotos!! que cómodo está tu westy delante de la chimenea!!!! besos
everything looks cozy and inviting! can't wait for fall to hit CT
Beautiful fall arrangement. I think we are going to have an early fall down south. Very mild August--not the extreme heat and more rain than usual. Really for a change in decorations and colors
I am so ready for fall decorating. I think I might just leave it out all year, I love it that much! Ollie is just so cute! Hope you get a nice steady breeze with a refreshing coolness!
It was so chilly here last week, that we used the oven to make dinner just to get a little warmth in the house. I can't remember ever using the oven in August because our weather is usually very hot and humid. We're back to summer temps and humidity this week though. Ollie is so cute laying by the woodstove.
Here in VT we are in for a few rather steamy days in the 90's, ugh! Getting out the Fall decorations sounds like a good idea…may make the heat less annoying.
Your home is beautiful, it screams "ME" :-D
Hope you are able to find your way back up to your sewing room soon enough.
