A Visitor

While the soup was simmering on the stove...

I just happened to glance out the window into the "back forty" and lo and behold, I noticed that we had a visitor!

A young buck helping himself to some of the windfall apples.  Eat up young man because winter is just around the corner!

By the time the snow melts in the spring, there won't be a single apple left on the ground.

We have several apple trees and love to share because there's no way that we could come close to eating them all!

Our Christmas cactus doesn't realize that it's only the 3rd of November.  I wish it could have waited another month before showing off it's peachy-colored flowers.

Isn't it so pretty?

And now I hear my mini quilt is calling me.  Just a little more work and the flimsy will be finished!

Happy stitching!

  1. That is so cool to see the deer in the yard--I guess as long as it isn't eating things you don't want eaten.
Beautiful color of Christmas Cactus. I haven't ever seen one that shade before.
Oh, that little mini. I had to go back and look at it again. Love it! : )

  9. how lovely to have a deer visit, I have had a fox a couple of times, even killed a stray chicken on my front lawn one day not nice. No signs of even a bud on my cactus yet but it did flower twice last year so maybe it is having a rest it is about 15 years old and afraid it gets neglected as when not in flower is in the spare bedroom

  10. LOL, I don't know, really, why we call them "Christmas cactus," because they really seem to follow their own clocks most of the time. But I guess the colour is welcome whenever it appears!

  11. Fall is beautiful here in Iowa. The coming week looks colder than what we have been having.
    It is soup time.
The reason your cactus is blooming is because it is a thanksgiving cactus. There is an Easter cactus and a Christmas cactus.
The difference is in the shape of the stems.

  12. I have 6 cacti that are all budded and about to burst open. My mother always put her's down in the cold cellar when they started early budding but I've never done that. They are so pretty! I love the color of your cactus...I haven't seen that color in my area.

  13. Hello Kaaren, I have just received my copy of Primative Quilts where your beautiful quilt is so beautifully shown. I love all the well detailed instructions. The embroidery particulate lay interested med and how each block went together. Striking just striking. Well done. D Kellock, Plymouth, N. s.b

  15. What a pretty (handsome) visitor! And I cannot imagine having that man apples. It's just too hot here. I tried growing one of the Israeli apple trees one year, but even that didn't grown. Your cactus is beautiful.
