Just About Done!

My Christmas decorating for this year is almost done!

Because this is the first time that we're decorating for Christmas in this house, it has taken longer than I thought it would.  Next year will be a piece of cake now that I know that each of our treasures has it's own special place.  I still have a little tweaking to do in the pantry, our bedroom and my studio which shouldn't take too long leaving just the outside to do but that will be easy.

So if you'd like to go for a little tour, just follow me!

First is the mud room as you enter our home through the back door.  That is a live holly bush which will be transplanted into the garden in the Spring.

From there we enter into the kitchen area.  This is a little vignette I created on the top of our stove.  Everything is sitting on a dough board which makes it easy to remove when I have to cook.

This little grouping is on top of an antique dough box which sits in front of the window overlooking the front yard.  The candle on top of Santa's head is a battery operated one that is set to come on daily at 4 p.m. and then shuts itself off automatically four hours later.  It looks so real!

From the kitchen, we step into the sitting or family room.

This next photo is also in the sitting room directly opposite the above photo.

Just off the sitting room is the dining room.  The picture is a little dark but can you see the feather tree sitting in a trencher filled with "never melting snowballs" and rusty bells?

This photo is of the dining room as well but taken from the other side of the room.  The green vase in the background on the right contains fresh holly and fir boughs pruned from shrubs and trees on our property.

The downstairs bathroom at night with just the mini lights illuminating the room.

I'm really pleased with the way the living room came together.  We tried the tree in a couple of places and this is what we finally settled on.

Panning over to the left of the tree is the hunt table which overlooks the front of the house.

This next photo was taken from just inside the entrance to the living room looking towards the opposite end of the room.

Can you see my Wish quilt hanging on the wall on the right side?  It's perfect there and I love it!

Follow me upstairs now.  There's some Christmas stuff happening up there too!

First, the upstairs bathroom.

And from the doorway.

Next is the guest bedroom or what I refer to as "Emily's room".

Did you notice the Comfort & Joy quilt on the bed?  You didn't?  Then let me show you a few more pictures.

Ollie and Frankie were a big help but they preferred chilling in front of the fire.

Poor Ollie.  He was just plum tuckered out from all the work.  I wonder if he is having visions of sugar plums dancing in his head...or a French poodle perhaps?

Bonjour, ma cherie.  Ooh la la!
I hope you enjoyed visiting our home.

Remember, the kettle is always hot and if you'd like to come and stitch for a while, do stop by.

How nice to see all your Christmas treasures out of the box. All your special touches have made your home very inviting and especially glad to see the focus on those new quilts that you worked so hard on this year. Sit back and enjoy the season. (And a little early snow I heard.) I may not get our treasures out this year but if I need a little Christmas, I will pop by your blog.

Hubby just got all the Christmas totes down from the garage. You've inspired me to get started today!

Love it all Kaaren...what is the name of the quilt pattern on the one above your sitting area in the family room?

I have thought of getting some things out today but am having back spasms so am going to pass on carrying any boxes..plus I need to change the living room around a bit. our house was built in 1930 so not a lot of wall space or shelf space so have to be very creative.

Thank you for sharing.

michelle

and I think Ollie is dreaming of an adorable Yorkie Terrier. :o)

It all looks lovely and cozy Kaaren! The Wish quilt fits that spot so well. And the Comfort and Joy too, I didn't realize it was big enough for a bed. Hoping to get my kitchen tree up today and the candles in the windows!

Like Karen above, I am struggling to find the passion to decorate, but with friends who inspire with all their lovely settings, how can it not rub off? Your home is so welcoming and to me that is the most important character for a home. The two new quilts...stunning. thank you so much for sharing. As soon as I sign off I am going to dig out my candles, they also stay on for 6 hours, shut off and come back on 24 hours later. When they come on I will thank you.

Spectacular decorating as usual. I can't wait to start decorating..but must be patient..moved 3 wks. ago. My brother is busy ripping out carpet from all 3 brdms. and laying laminate. Master bedroom will be my bedroom/sewing room combined and it is almost done. Can't wait to unpack many, many boxes of fabric and get started. Decorating comes somewhere in the mix..as some of the family (20 adults and 4 kiddo's)are coming for Christmas dinner.
Sharing a home with my handy/jack-of-all trades brother has worked out well for me! And he gets home cooking like his wife used to provide for him prior to her passing 6yrs ago.

Oh, what a lovely and inviting house full of beautiful holiday wares! Don't Westies just sleep adorably??? Give Ollie a squeezin' hug for me and Yogi!

What a wonderfully warm and inviting home you have, Kaaren! Love the new quilts you finished this year, too. Ollie must have worked so hard with you, putting out all the gorgeous treasures! :)
I've been trying to decide on whether or not to get out our decorations. Maybe I'll just visit here this year for a cuppa Christmas Cheer! Blessings!

What a wonderful series of displays. While doing this did you think back to a year ago? I did and am so proud of you and hubby, and all of your accomplishments. I recall the before and after of your remodel. You now have a wonderful and lovely home.
I have two questions..
Do the four legged kids pull anything down? My cat loves our tree and the ornaments (swat, swat), and has found that she can have so much fun with the bows on the packages.
Lastly, in the living room, behind the cabinet, what do those doors go to? I have wondered that for some time.
Thank you again for showing us your wonderful home.
