Because this is the first time that we're decorating for Christmas in this house, it has taken longer than I thought it would. Next year will be a piece of cake now that I know that each of our treasures has it's own special place. I still have a little tweaking to do in the pantry, our bedroom and my studio which shouldn't take too long leaving just the outside to do but that will be easy.
So if you'd like to go for a little tour, just follow me!
First is the mud room as you enter our home through the back door. That is a live holly bush which will be transplanted into the garden in the Spring.
From there we enter into the kitchen area. This is a little vignette I created on the top of our stove. Everything is sitting on a dough board which makes it easy to remove when I have to cook.
This little grouping is on top of an antique dough box which sits in front of the window overlooking the front yard. The candle on top of Santa's head is a battery operated one that is set to come on daily at 4 p.m. and then shuts itself off automatically four hours later. It looks so real!
From the kitchen, we step into the sitting or family room.
This next photo is also in the sitting room directly opposite the above photo.
Just off the sitting room is the dining room. The picture is a little dark but can you see the feather tree sitting in a trencher filled with "never melting snowballs" and rusty bells?
This photo is of the dining room as well but taken from the other side of the room. The green vase in the background on the right contains fresh holly and fir boughs pruned from shrubs and trees on our property.
The downstairs bathroom at night with just the mini lights illuminating the room.
I'm really pleased with the way the living room came together. We tried the tree in a couple of places and this is what we finally settled on.
Panning over to the left of the tree is the hunt table which overlooks the front of the house.
This next photo was taken from just inside the entrance to the living room looking towards the opposite end of the room.
Can you see my Wish quilt hanging on the wall on the right side? It's perfect there and I love it!
Follow me upstairs now. There's some Christmas stuff happening up there too!
First, the upstairs bathroom.
And from the doorway.
Next is the guest bedroom or what I refer to as "Emily's room".
Did you notice the Comfort & Joy quilt on the bed? You didn't? Then let me show you a few more pictures.
Ollie and Frankie were a big help but they preferred chilling in front of the fire.
Poor Ollie. He was just plum tuckered out from all the work. I wonder if he is having visions of sugar plums dancing in his head...or a French poodle perhaps?
Bonjour, ma cherie. Ooh la la! |
Remember, the kettle is always hot and if you'd like to come and stitch for a while, do stop by.

Your home is just lovely - decorated for Christmas - or any time! Let's do some virtual stitching together this afternoon.
Wow, Ollie is big! Your home is gorgeous! I'm surprised some magazine hasn't come in to do a photo shoot!
Thanks, as always, for sharing!
Cheery wave!
Bev
How nice to see all your Christmas treasures out of the box. All your special touches have made your home very inviting and especially glad to see the focus on those new quilts that you worked so hard on this year. Sit back and enjoy the season. (And a little early snow I heard.) I may not get our treasures out this year but if I need a little Christmas, I will pop by your blog.
Hubby just got all the Christmas totes down from the garage. You've inspired me to get started today!
Love it all Kaaren...what is the name of the quilt pattern on the one above your sitting area in the family room?
I have thought of getting some things out today but am having back spasms so am going to pass on carrying any boxes..plus I need to change the living room around a bit. our house was built in 1930 so not a lot of wall space or shelf space so have to be very creative.
Thank you for sharing.
michelle

Oh Kaaren, I LOVE your cozy home. The kitchen and bathrooms are my favorites, because you had added such warm touches. Thanks for the tour!
It all looks lovely and cozy Kaaren! The Wish quilt fits that spot so well. And the Comfort and Joy too, I didn't realize it was big enough for a bed. Hoping to get my kitchen tree up today and the candles in the windows!
A beautiful home Kaaren. I love your Christmas decorations, especially your two NEW quilts. Emily's room is just gorgeous. Enjoy your Christmas season.

Very inviting!
Well, I am afraid that if I stopped in, you may have a difficult time getting rid of me! :) Your home is just lovely and a beautiful place to usher in the Christmas season!
Like Karen above, I am struggling to find the passion to decorate, but with friends who inspire with all their lovely settings, how can it not rub off? Your home is so welcoming and to me that is the most important character for a home. The two new quilts...stunning. thank you so much for sharing. As soon as I sign off I am going to dig out my candles, they also stay on for 6 hours, shut off and come back on 24 hours later. When they come on I will thank you.
Everything looks lovely and very Christmasy Kaaren. It must have been fun to find special places all of your for Christmas decorations.
I enjoyed both posts. Your home is just lovely and I am sure that anyone who walks through the front door would feel very welcome.
I love how you've decorated every little nook of your house, even the bathroom! Look forwad to seeing what else you come up with. I'm hoping to start my decorating this week :) Barb.

Merry Christmas to you! Just home from a weekend away in time to enjoy your wonderful house tour! I think I can even smell the season of Christmas! Your home is a delight...decorated so well and with such taste! Would love to drop by for a stitching good time, but sure didn't like driving on snow-covered highways today so I am going to stay put for awhile! Thank you for welcoming us into your home!
You definitely make your home very welcoming. Thank you for the tour.

How absolutely gorgeous your house looks, Kaaren! I think you've finally come full circle from the move and everything else! You and Mr. PQ have made a lovely home - and with Frankie and Ollie to keep you company it all looks perfect! Mr. Squash and I couldn't be happier for you both!
Cheers!
Kaaren my dear,
That is the best house tour that I have been on in years and years. Everything is so wondrous...just like Christmas should be!!!So clean and pretty....not a a tiny dustball around!!!! Seriously, I totally enjoyed seeing all of your pretty things and where you have placed them. The quilts are beautiful!
Thank you, Kaaren...very nice of you to show us your fabulous home.
Truly eye candy to enjoy. Your house is so beautiful and inviting. Warm and cozy for the holidays. Ollie and Frankie seem to be a team. They are both so cute together. Bev W.
Spectacular decorating as usual. I can't wait to start decorating..but must be patient..moved 3 wks. ago. My brother is busy ripping out carpet from all 3 brdms. and laying laminate. Master bedroom will be my bedroom/sewing room combined and it is almost done. Can't wait to unpack many, many boxes of fabric and get started. Decorating comes somewhere in the mix..as some of the family (20 adults and 4 kiddo's)are coming for Christmas dinner.
Sharing a home with my handy/jack-of-all trades brother has worked out well for me! And he gets home cooking like his wife used to provide for him prior to her passing 6yrs ago.
Oh, what a lovely and inviting house full of beautiful holiday wares! Don't Westies just sleep adorably??? Give Ollie a squeezin' hug for me and Yogi!
What a wonderfully warm and inviting home you have, Kaaren! Love the new quilts you finished this year, too. Ollie must have worked so hard with you, putting out all the gorgeous treasures! :)
I've been trying to decide on whether or not to get out our decorations. Maybe I'll just visit here this year for a cuppa Christmas Cheer! Blessings!
xoxo

Your home is lovely. And the decorations are so pretty. The removable dough board on the stove is genius! Thanks so much for the tour.
You seem to have fit everything in just nicely. And now you have it documented for next year in pictures. You're right, it should be a piece of cake!
What a wonderful series of displays. While doing this did you think back to a year ago? I did and am so proud of you and hubby, and all of your accomplishments. I recall the before and after of your remodel. You now have a wonderful and lovely home.
I have two questions..
Do the four legged kids pull anything down? My cat loves our tree and the ornaments (swat, swat), and has found that she can have so much fun with the bows on the packages.
Lastly, in the living room, behind the cabinet, what do those doors go to? I have wondered that for some time.
Thank you again for showing us your wonderful home.
What a warm and inviting home you have! Love seeing the Christmas quilts displayed and I'm sure you are enjoying being able to see them everyday too.
Thanks for sharing and giving us a tour!
Kaaren... just beautiful! I love everything! And Ollie is growing so big! What a cutie pie... still pulls at my heartstrings whenever I see his picture :o)
It all looks so Christmasy and inviting. Would you come do mine now???
It is all so GORGEOUS!!! I would love to come by, have a cup, do some stitching, and wait for the snow to fall. Magical house. :)
Good job. We are at our kids in VA and they decorated their house today. All three grands helped. I watched, mostly. I have to do mine when we get home. Hubby always puts the lights on the tree.
Happy Christmas.
Kaaren -- I LOVE it ! Thanks for sharing your most spectacularly decorated home -- just love it!

Your home is just lovely. It looks very homey and inviting. Sure looks like Ollie is fitting right in.
How could anyone not be in the Christmas spirit after touring your lovely home? You certainly have a gift for decorating with just the right touch--nothing gaudy, just tasteful, comfortable decor. Beautiful!
Your house is really festive now. So many beautiful items, especially those quilts.
Oooooh I would certainly LOVE to stop by and stitch for awhile! Your home is decorated just right and looks so inviting! Merry Christmas! :-)
I would really love to join you in a cup of tea & some stitching. Also to see your decorations close up, but unfortunately Queensland, Australia is just a bit too far away. But never say never, you just never know. Love how your Wish quilt turned out. Bronwyn is such a talented lady.
When I grow up I would love a house like yours. Your house decor is really beautiful. Helen
Beautiful home and decorations! Thank you for sharing your virtual tour.
Thanks for showing us your beautifully decorated Christmas home. My favourite part was getting to see the quilts you've made being lovingly displayed in your home. It's a good job you've got Ollie to help you out. Have a lovely week.

Your house is magical. The best part is dear Frankie and Ollie. Ollie is adorable and obviously needs a good nap!!
Wow you home is so beautiful with all the decorations...Quite inspiring! :o)
Your Christmas decorations are whimsical and delightful. Everything in your home has a place and is organized so tastefully. Love pictures of Ollie and Frankie. Seems they are the best of buds. Take care and Happy Holidays!
Kaaren...such wonderful decorations...I noticed in your "Emily" room the pillow, is that a crochetted cream on white sham? It looks very old fashioned and wonderful. I really do love those types of projects whenever they are displayed. Happy Holidays! and to Frankie and Ollie too!
Beautiful! I love your home, you really have the touch for decorating.
Your decorations and home are lovely. I think what I like best is that it is so subtle, it just blends. I see your Wish Quilt and I think I got to get on mine so it will be ready next year. It is beautiful and I love where you have it hanging. Comfort and Joy looks great on the bed. You are 2 wonderful new additions to your quilts. Where is the poinsettia quilt?
Janet
So sorry to hear of your losses and heavy heart.
During the holiday season, i light a special candle on my mantle in remembrance of those who are no longer with us... A visible reminder that they remain in our hearts and thoughts. Peace, b
