I don’t know what the weather is like in your little corner of the world but in ours, it’s been extremely hot and dry and as a result, we’ve been spending much of our time indoors.
I’ve managed to get myself caught up on the Comfort & Joy quilt along hosted by Anne at Cottons ‘n Wool.
Although the original sample is pieced and appliquéd entirely in cotton, I’ve chosen to do mine in wool-on-cotton with lots of homespun thrown in for good measure…just to add to the scrapiness. (Mary from Quilt Hollow generously gifted me with a slew of homespuns a while back. Thanks again, my friend.)
I’ve made a couple of changes here and there but that’s part of the fun, right?
Block 1
Block 2
Block 3
And here’s the entire left side of the quilt sewn together. I’m going to add a lot of embellishments but not until after the machine quilting is done.
We went to the farmer’s market bright and early this morning. I didn’t really need too much and came home with some fresh cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and an olive bread.
As soon as we got back home, I made a strawberry-rhubarb pie for tonight’s dessert. For dinner, we’re having fresh local haddock, salad and a baked potato. I can’t wait!
Just let me know if you’re coming so I can set an extra place or two.
And last but certainly not least…
The breeder sent us this photo of our Westie puppy earlier this week. She told us that we’ll be able to pick him up any time after the 1st of August which will make him eight weeks old.
I think we’ve finally decided on a name for our little guy.
Oliver…or Ollie, for short. We think it’ll suit him to a tee!
I love your version of Comfort and Joy--so warm and homey feeling.
ReplyDeleteYou can set a place for me, but I might be a little slow getting there. : ) Sounds soo good!
Oliver is a cutie--great name choice. Can you hardly wait?
Your comfort and joy is cozy and I love your choice of fabrics. Oliver is a darling. I'm excited for you.
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely! Comfort and Joy is so cozy looking.
ReplyDeleteYour new pup is ADORABLE!!!
Your quilt is going to be gorgeous , love the combination of cottons and wool . Oliver is just too cute and a perfect name for this little bundle. That pie looks so..... yummy.
ReplyDeleteSo nice of your breeder to update you with "baby" pictures and Oliver's arrival is coming fast. The Farmer's Market can be just the place to create a menu on the fly. Maybe we can wander there next week as our trip plans are firm now. Here the produce is not so plentiful nor as robust looking as our vegetable farmers struggle to irrigate the plants. Perfect vacation weather for some; total crop failure for some neighbours.
ReplyDeleteComfort and Joy is gorgeous!!!!!! Everything you do is gorgeous! Oliver is so cute...what a great name for him. He looks like an "Ollie". What fun you are going to have with him! Oh and yes, I'll be there about 6 tonight. Hold dinner, please. What a wonderful trip we had in your area a few years ago. Now, you have a delightful evening!
ReplyDeleteHi Kaaren,
ReplyDeleteLove to come for dinner. The pie looks delicious.
I like the name for the pup. He certainly is growing. I'll bet you can hardly wait until August 1st.
The Comfort and Joy quilt is coming along. I would love to try it, but am in the middle of a wool block of week and a BOM from Primitive gatherings and that is keeping me busy.
Our weather here in Ontario was very hot but now is perfect summer weather.
Enjoy your weekend.
Dianne
Love the blocks! The little pup is sooo sweet. You must be getting anxious. I had a Sheltie named Oliver, Ollie for short and he was such a wonderful, little dog so I think you have chosen a great name. It' so dry in Eastern Ontario. We're hoping for rain this week. Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteHello, We are having nice rains in the afternoons and sunshine in the mornings. Right now everything is so green in the Mountains of Southwest Virginia. Your Sew a Long is beautiful. Ollie is a very sweet name for that little guy. Cant wait to see more photos.
ReplyDeleteOliver is growing leaps and bounds it appears just as your Comfort and Joy quilt.
ReplyDeleteThey both look to be great projects that you will enjoy for many years to come.
Can't wait to see how Oliver reacts to the other family members!
Comfort and Joy is coming along quite nicely, and I think your small changes will make it definitely your own. I usually like to change a couple of things in a pattern just so it's not exactly the same as everyone else's. The puppy is getting quite big now and Oliver is the perfect name for him. It won't be long before he's home, how exciting for you. I hope Frankie will enjoy getting to know him. If I could be there for that pie, I would. But it would be a long car ride from coast to coast, and there probably wouldn't be any left. Thanks for the invite though.
ReplyDeleteYour version of Comfort and Joy is wonderful, Kaaren. Wool on cotton is exactly what I'd expect from you. :-)
ReplyDeleteA yummy visit to the market. We'll be there for dinner. :-)
Oliver/Ollie is a perfect name for your little guy. He's so dang cute, Kaaren.

Loving your comfort and joy as well. working on my Santa block today - although it's a bit cooler outside today - might need to go float for awhile lol. enjoy your yummy dinner tonight.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet puppy. Block 3 is a hoot.
ReplyDeleteYour version of Comfort & Joy is already gorgeous Kaaren!

ReplyDeleteBlessings Sweet Lady!
I think it's funny how we wait all winter for the warm weather so we can go outside, then we get a hot spell and it drives us back in! Thank goodness going back in involves quilting! I love your version of this one, Kaaren! Great name for your new puppy and we'll be over for dessert!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Your quilt is going nicely and looks wonderful. Love the wool on cotton.

ReplyDeleteI am happy to see that you have joined in on the Christmas quilt and got caught up. A fun project. Each person is doing their own unique things with the pattern.

ReplyDeleteI love Ollie and he is growing so nicely and looks nice and healthy, what a cutie, he's become.
Debbie

ReplyDeleteOllie is over the top a cutie and certainly your pick of the litter -I know you and the Mr. can't wait. Love your comfort and joy quilt - it is coming along fast. Judy C
ReplyDeleteOh my...I'm drooling!! I want to be there for dinner for sure! I love your version of Comfort and Joy, and Ollie is too cute!
ReplyDeleteOliver/Ollie such a wonderful name. He is going to be so loved and Frankie and the Girls will help show him the way.
ReplyDeleteYour appliqué quilt is looking good!
We are also fortunate to have good Food Fares--nice growers and delicious cheeses, veggie, and fruits.
I have been reading your blog for a long while, but never commented. But I just had to share about our Oliver/Ollie. He is the sweetest Bichon. He sets on his hind legs and begs. He's been doing this on his own since he was a wee puppy. We finally taught him how to do it on command. Our daughter tells him "teach me how to Ollie". And he sits up and begs. I think it's a play of words about some dance move or something. I've been out of the "cool" loop for years. We're in So. Illinois and its been in the 95 - 107*F. For weeks now with no rain. Lots of indoor sewing and knitting.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is wonderful. I love your name for the puppy. Great choice!
ReplyDeleteWow Kaaren that is a gorgeous quilt! It looks like a lot of fun to work on.
ReplyDeleteOllie is just adorable - I bet you can't wait to get him home!
Love the quilt - any quilt with a mix of piecing and applique is a winner in my book! Ollie looks like a little bundle of love - you must be going crazy waiting for his arrival. Keep the Faith.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the last border for Comfort and Joy. Can't wait to get them sewn on and finish the applique. Love your blocks.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture of the new baby. I think Ollie is the perfect name! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYour Oliver is a sweetie! We have a 4 1/2 year old Oliver...our youngest grandchild! We usually shorten him to Olvie...just sort of stuck. Love your Comfort and Joy.
ReplyDeleteOliver made me smile! He's gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteLove your version of Comfort and Joy.
Oh my! You have made a gorgeous start on that fabulous quilt! Wow! I love it! And Oliver is adorable too! Westies are precious! You'll have your hands full! No more photos of a quilt on the floor...unless you want a Westie on it! Stop by our blog if you have time. We have a giveaway going on for a Collections Two primitive quilt and rug hooking book!

You deserve all the goodness in life and so happy one of those blessings is named Ollie!
ReplyDeleteLove Comfort and Joy...especially with the homespuns! Great idea and I can see how much fun each block must be! Little Oliver is precious, and I really wish we lived closer so I could drop in for a piece of pie! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteYOur quilt is looking good so far. The homespuns are really great all around the blocks.
ReplyDeleteOh, your pup is growing. I know you can't wait to get your hands on him.
So nice to catch up with you. I've not been feeling well, sinus infection. I've been resting and it's about over now. I love your quilt! You always put your own unique touches to quilts. Oliver is adorable! I'm so happy for you...
ReplyDeleteOllie is indeed a perfect name for your little new Westie!! I can't wait to meet him on your blog!!
ReplyDeleteLove your Comfort and Joy quilt. Oh,
ReplyDeletethe puppy is so cute. I like the name too. There is nothing like a new puppy in the house. You are going to have so much fun. I bet the cat will enjoy him too.
If there was ever a quilt that called for some wool it is Comfort & Joy. I've been collecting the block of the month kits from one of the California shops. They are gathering dust in a basket for now but your pictures might be just the inspiration I needed to get started. Ollie is adorable. I bet you won't be getting as much sewing or cooking done once he moves in. I'd be cuddling with him all day long.
ReplyDeleteExpect me for dinner the first week Ollie comes to stay.
ReplyDeleteHe's so stinkin' sweet.
hugs
