An old friend that I had lost track of reappeared while I was organizing my studio last week.
Tucked away amongst the boxes and bins in the storage area under the dormer window, I caught sight of this old basket. My heart started to beat just a little bit faster.
I couldn’t wait to open the lid to catch a glimpse of what was inside.
How wonderful to see you again! I had forgotten how pretty you are.
It’s time we spend a little quality time together again, don’t you think?
We have so much catching up to do.
It should be so easy to pick up right where we left off over two years ago.
Let me fix a pot of tea and I’ll invite my antique Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt to join us. After all, she was my original inspiration.
I’ll just carry on stitching as we catch up on all the news.
What fun it will be catching up, the hexies are lovely as is the beautiful quilt :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is a true treasure - thank you so much for sharing it. We are having a blog hop right now, thanks to Madame Samm and all the links are at www.SewIQuiltNow.Com -it is all about mini table quilts on stands. Thought you might enjoy. Judy C posted today at www.shadetreequilting.com
ReplyDeleteBeautiful inspiration Kaaren. I so love how you have displayed the quilt
ReplyDeleteI need to keep my projects organized. I start something and then when I start again, I forget what I was doing and where the supplies were, lol. Love the door hanger, nice idea.

You've reminded me of an old, very similar looking friend of mine. Wonder where she is......
ReplyDeleteShe is such a beautiful friend. I have one like her stashed away in my sewing room somewhere. I really should get back in touch with mine too.

I love Earl Grey and hexies.

What a wonderful surprise to find that little basket. I think she stayed hidden until you were ready for her.
ReplyDeleteSitting here reading your post created tears of joy. I'm so excited that you discovered your 'friend' nearby. Friends pop in when we least expect it but need them.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy.
Oh, the antique one is lovely and the new one will be just as lovely. You make the most beautiful quilts, Kaaren. You really enjoy what you do, don't you? I'm glad.

Your quilt is gorgeous! What a labor of love. I am in the process of making my first and probably last Grandmother's flower garden quilt!! It is an enjoyable but lengthy project. xo
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post, I have a GFG that is a little farther along and one that's still in flowers. How fun to find this and start again.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful find. Enjoy your time with your old friend.
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful antique grandmothers flower garden, that is quite a treat. And in such good condition.
ReplyDeleteThen you have a few good rows on the newer version. WOW! Is the plan for the quilt to fit your bed?
If so, that will mean quite a few sit downs, and watch a few movies/shows.
Have you watched Downton Abbey? Wonderful series. The Elizabeth Gaskell Collection (wives and daughters, cranford, north and south). Pride and Predudice. Such fun.
What a lovely surprise!
ReplyDeleteThat is really a wonderful GFG quilt. I am so glad you met up again(and shared her with us)!
ReplyDeleteMy sister just emailed and sent me over to view your lovely
ReplyDeleteGFG. Little did she know I was sitting here stitching some hexies for a pin keep for my daughter. Thank you or sharing your beautiful treasure. My sister is contemplating finishing hers as well. I think she started hers a number of years ago.
This may just give her the noodge she needed.
Cute post! I am sure you will enjoy working on your lost project again! I have been organizing my fabric like you suggested in a previous post. Even bought a ruler like yours so I can get it right. It will take me awhile, but I have a great start on it. Thank you for the info on how to do that!

Oh, how pretty!! Hexies are so addictive. I am trying not to notice my WIP that is sitting on the edge of the sofa, just waiting for me to grab a needle and add another hexie or two.
ReplyDeleteYour old friend takes my breath away! I too am working on a very cherished GFG! We draw lots of attention every where we go. My friend and I spend lots of time together these days and we drink lots and lots of coffee. Have a wonderful time with your grandmother's flower garden. Funny I was going to show off mine today as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought you always finished what you started. :o) What a beautiful surprise. Enjoy getting to know each other again. I hope you aren't buried under new snow.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to catch up with an old friend! The quilt is amazing and I love your hexies! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful! Tea did you say and only 3 hours as the crow flies?? Should give you time to make pie too right lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful treasure. I always enjoy your posts, they are my inspiration each time I read them hem. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI recently gave away a whole mess of these blocks! So pretty.
ReplyDeleteWish I could bring my 15-year-old Grandmother's Flower Garden project over and visit while we stitch. It has been tucked away far too long!
ReplyDeleteYours is a beauty!
What fun to find an old friend like that. I can't wait to see what you two get up to.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh!! Wish I had an old friend like that!!! :o)
ReplyDeleteP
Sweet tryst. Enjoy your get to-gether.
ReplyDeleteHi Kaaren... What a wonderful find... I am sure it will be beautiful... Your work is stunning... Have fun finishing the quilt.. Hugs :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteFunny to know what we hide away and forget about. I have a picnic style basket way up high on a shelf. I know it has some smaller size quilt kits in it but I couldn't tell you which ones. You had a real treasure tucked away in yours.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful hexies! It's so nice that you found them again! :0)
ReplyDeleteHi Karen,
ReplyDeleteI also have an antique 30's GMFG quilt and have always wanted to make one. Years ago my mother and I put a few blocks together but we new nothing about English paper piecing and just winged it so the blocks were never put together.
Seeing yours makes me want to get mine out and start again.
I started my PP GFG when my son was playing in the Little Leaugue All-Star games. I think he was 12. He turned 30 in March and the top is complete, just needs quilting...I even saved the fabric I wanted to use for the binding! You've inspired me to get it out and quilt it! I look at it from time to time, run my fingers over the 'flowers', remember the items I had made with some of the fabrics...and remember whatching the little boy, who is now a Man, grow up! Seems like yesterday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this today.
What fun to find that treasure. I have surprised myself a few times with a forgotten project. Usually they aren't that far along and I still have a lot to work on. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteC'est magnifique, j'adore . Amicalement Linette
