Yesterday, my friends Diane, Julia and I went shopping! If your immediate reaction was, “Oh, oh!”, then you’re absolutely right! Today, our wallets are much skinnier than they were when we started out. You see, the three of us have three things in common…quilting, hooking and the love of antiques!
Need I say more?
Our first stop was our local quilt shop, a short 65 miles away. I really had no intention of buying any fabric but I just couldn’t resist the prices of these Civil War and reproduction fabrics.
My poor studio is a mess because I’ve just been piling stuff in there rather than putting things away. I am hoping to start piecing a nine patch quilt tomorrow and if I can stay focused, I would like to finish the top before my biopsy surgery on Wednesday. I am soooooo longing to sit at my machine once again.
After a wonderful lunch beside the water, we then made our way to our favorite antique shop. Insert another, “Oh, oh!” here.
Did you notice the dough board underneath the fabrics in the above photo? That was one of my purchases. Here’s a better look.
I have it sitting on top of the stove to hide the ugly heating elements. This stove came with the house and I can’t wait to replace it with a new one…and soon, I hope.
This next beauty might be mine, if Julia decides not to purchase it. She is going to bring her husband back to have a look at it and if they don’t purchase it then it’s mine!
An Empire chest of drawers in wonderful condition! Isn’t it a beauty?
We stopped at several other places and here is just one of the things I purchased for Mr. Painted Quilt.
He loves everything hot and spicy and this jelly just fills the bill.
What a wonderful day spent with friends. We all had so much fun and can’t wait to do it again…but I’m not so sure that our husband’s feel the same. *wink*

I don't think there is a better way to spend the day, fiends, antiques and quilt shops. I love the chest of drawers! :)

Lovely fabrics, and I love the bread board. It looks great on the stove.
Hope you get to revisit that chest of drawers and bring it home.
Good luck for Wednesday, hoping everything goes well. will cross fingers and toes!
Kaaren,
Looks like ya'll had a great day! Here's a recipe your hubby is sure to love. Ingredients: Fresh whole jalapeno peppers, bacon, cream cheese, toothpicks. Cut the stem end off the peppers, cut them lengthwise, scrape out the seeds and white membrane ridges with a paring knife (set aside). Cut the cream cheese into little wedges about 1/2 inch wide by depth of the cream cheese (I cut the whole thing in half lengthwise, then each of these in half...so I have 4 "logs", then I cut the logs into about 1/2 wide pieces). Cut bacon strips in half cross-way...so each slice of bacon, becomes 2 half slices.
Take a pepper, put cream cheese wedge on top, wrap in bacon. Stick with tooth pick an place on baking sheet. Bake them until the bacon is done. Bet ya can't eat just one!
Glad you had a wonderful day. Love that dough board.
Good luck on Wednesday.
Hugs, Darlis
I'm glad to hear you had a great day out, and certainly wish only the best outcome on the 20th.
I have my Mom's breadboard, and it means a lot to me and that dresser is gorgeous.
Love the "girls".
Keep up that positive attitude, you are truly an inspiration.
Prayers and hugs.
Hello Love your dough board, have never seen or heard of one b4 and it looks made for your stove top. And I love your stove. It looks SO big and american to me (that means good). Is it sort of retro and how old do you think it is? If you saw what I currently have....EWW!! I have always had a really good stove but not now. YUK! GFC and shares, say no more!!!! Sounds like a perfect day to me Kaaren. My gran had a dough board (we called it the baking board as kids) like yours. The fabrics are great. Hope you get a wee play with the machine before Wednesday. You are in my prayers. love Barbara.

Glad to hear you had such a lovely day, Kaaren. I guess it was the treat you bought for Mr PQ that re...ally blew the budget...lol... :) Happy crafting, Jenny
If the wife is happy then so be the husband. Right? What a fun and carefree day. Just what the doctor ordered. :o) I think spending the day sewing is great therapy for whatever ails you. Oh and please say hi go the girls for me.
Aren't days with like minded friends the best?
You came home with some treasures..
Glad you enjoyed the day.
Sounds like the perfect day to me! You even went to my new favourite; the Tangled Garden. I lugged many a heavy jar home on the train because we didn't know when to stop in that shop. Nothing like shopping therapy to spur inspiration and I'm sure any husband will support that. Hugs to you.
Oh - sounds like so much fun! Love the fabrics that you chose. Nothing beats a day of shopping with friends!
Always fun to go shopping! Glad you had a good time. Thinking of you and praying for the best with the biopsy surgery on Wednesday.
Susannah
So glad you had a fun day. Nothing like a good day shopping to put us in great mood. Wishing you the best on Wednesday. You are in my thoughts.

Good for you Kaaren - keep those spirits soaring with positive and happy thoughts and field trips. I love your purchases - the dough board is something I could covet and covering those ugly stove elements is an excellent idea. We recently bought the smooth top and hope we never go back to the other. Judy C in NC sends only the bestest of wishes.
A day out with friends is good for the soul! It sounds like a fantastic day.
Now THAT is a fun day - that dough board is great, I need one for my ugly stove, lol! Wonderful fabrics. I'll be praying for you for Wednesday!
LOVE all your purchases!! What a perfect sounding day!!!! <3
Oh, Kaaren, those Civil War fabrics are fantastic. I live in Victoria and we have lots of antique shops, but nowhere can I buy CW fabrics. You are so lucky. About once a year, a friend of mine from Vancouver and I take a trip to Bellingham, Washington to a store that has a good selection, but that's as close as I can get. Of course, there is online shopping, but it's not quite the same as pawing through the fat quarters in the quilt shop. All the best to you for Wednesday.
Sounds and looks like you girls had a great day. I'll be thinking and praying for you on Wed.
So glad you had a great time. Best wishes for Wednesday.
It's wonderful to read of your shopping expedition - and Mr PQ was not forgotten at all with that yummy jelly!
Praying for your biopsy on the 20th.
Big hugs,
Jenny

What a glorious way to spend time with friends.
What great finds....and wonderful friends to enjoy them with. I love the dough board. I wish I had the one we used at home when I was younger...what memories! Will be saying prayers for you on Wednesday that everything goes well and you receive news you need to progress with treatment. God Bless.
What a wonderful day, lunch by the water, good friends, and spending money on things you love. Sounds like a perfect day to me. Prayers are with you for Wednesday! Hugs!!
Great finds Kaaren. Did you go to the tangled garden. We were there 5 years ago and I kept the little box my jams came in. It now resides at our front door holding our keys. Looks like you had a fantastic day with your friends. All the best for Wednesday. Do you know that we became great granparents?
Love all of your "finds". Will be thinking of you on Wednesday. Always keep positive thoughts.
Spending with friends--both literally and time, what could be better! I plan to do the same at a quilt show in a couple of weeks. Love the Empire chest and dough board. Mr. Painted Quilt is welcome to the spicy stuff, I am a wimp. Warm and healing thoughts to you for a quick procedure and great results!
What a wonderful way to spend the day with friends. I never want the day to end.
Beautiful chest of drawers!
Hope everything goes well tomorrow!
Prim Blessings
Robin
You got some really nice purchases. If your friends are like mine, you kind of feed of each other and buying just becomes a must.
I have to tell you a funny story, Karen. I used to have a breadboard like that and it had a beautiful strip of bird's eye maple in the middle. My ex-husband, an avid antique gun restorer and enthusiast eyed that piece all the time until one day I came home to find "another bread board", at least I thought it was a new one but in fact it was the old one with the bird's eye maple replaced. You see my hubby at the time had finally decided he needed that bird's eye maple for grips for an antique pistol.
Will be thinking of you tomorrow and sending good thoughts and prayers. I know you'll be just fine.
Hugs,
Gail
It sounds like an amazing time with good friends! I love your finds. The chest of drawers--oh my goodness.
Hi Kaaren, sounds like you had a wonderful day with friends and shopping. I'm praying and thinking about you and a big hug sent your way.
