What A Day!

Subtitle: Confessions of a Shop-a-holic!

What a day we had yesterday! 

Nancy (no blog) and I left bright and early to do our own quilt shop hop in NY and Vermont.  Nancy is a friend and longarm quilter extraordinaire who worked her magic on my Lemoyne Star  quilt that I pieced when my modem died about a month ago that you can see and read about here.

The main purpose of our trip was to visit  a shop where Nancy buys some of the thread for her longarm machine.  She currently has a quilt on the rack for which she needed more thread to complete.

Our first stop was at a relatively new quilt shop in the picturesque little town of Rouses Point, NY.   Here’s Nancy pictured at the entrance to the shop.

DSCN1031Fibre Junction has only been open since May of this year but if you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re into Civil War and Reproduction fabrics.

DSCN1041From there, we crossed the bridge over Lake Champlain into Vermont.  We proceeded down Interstate 89 to Williston and to our next stop…Strawberry & Rhubarb.

Nancy bought her thread and I bought some fat quarters which will be used for  some of the blocks for the ‘Aqua and Red’ swap which you can link to from my sidebar.

From there we headed just down the road, made a right turn at the first traffic lights and proceeded about 1. 5 miles to Sew Many Treasures.

DSCN1037I was only able to obtain one inside photo of the shop before the battery on my camera died.

Here, I bought some of the most amazing turkey red fabrics.

Aren’t they stunning?  All the way home I kept on repeating how much I ♥ these fabrics!

From there we proceeded to Yankee Pride.  This is another great shop in Essex Junction, VT.

DSCN1044Here I managed to find some fabric from the Sampler Collection by Windham Fabrics that was being sold at 50% off so I bought all the remaining yardage that was left on the bolt to use as backing for a future project.

Our shopping extravaganza lasted about 10 hours…and we didn’t even stop for lunch!  I arrived back home at about 8 o’clock last evening, tired, hungry and ever so happy with my purchases and especially my day.

    What a fantastic and fun outing. Fabric, friends, fun but NO FOOD??? You need food for fuel. I'm sure I would have died. Love your purchases.

    These are the best kind of days, hopping around to all the shops. The girl that owns Fibre Junction also has a blog, she is so friendly and a great person.

    Gosh Kaaren...sounds like the best day ever! Unsure though about skipping the meal...I'd have to of had a snack on the road....or at least a yummy coffee. :-)

    Isn't that the best kind of day? Shop hopping with a friend. I am sure that you had a great time. I would have had to eat too! There is a good restaurant very close by S&R!!

    Oh My what a lovely day you and your friend had--wished I could of come along too---I have learned when going on a shop-hop to always carry cheese and some crackers--they are always helpful and they do help one so you can think of fabric and goodies not your tummy!!!! I love some of the red and aqua's --i am not in that swap--but am looking for those colors in fabrics anyway!!!! have a great week-end--hugs, Di

    What a fun day! My sister and I like to hit all the shops in my area when she comes out to CA, but we have totally opposite taste in fabrics so it can be a challenge to pick a shop! Those Turkey reds are great--I've been looking for some too.

    WOW Kaaren! Gosh when I see your photos I yearn to live closer to you, to frequent those shops would be absolute bliss!!!

    Geesh, that sampler fabric is to die for! Wow! And did I detect a piece of Kaffe Fasset in your red bundle? :-)

    Looks like ya had a great day. Just getting together with a friend can make it great and then add quilt shops on top, it's like adding the icing to the cake.

    How fun! I think Nancy gave your the perfect excuse to have to have a shop hop. These shops looks soooo tempting. I enjoyed being able to peek inside them. I am now going to scour the internet as I have fallen in love with the Williamsburg Sampler fabric and just have to find some. It would even make a great center by using one as a center of a medallion quilt.

    Were the leaves looking beautiful in New England?

    The fabric you bought: absolutely fabulous!
    A day like this is "a day with a star" (we say that in the Netherlands, when a day is very special, in Canada too?)

    Ohh... this sounds like a dreamday for me. Unfortunately we do have only one quilt shop in Bern and I would love to visite once one of the "big ones" like in U.K. Or USA!
