The rest of the story...

And now, for the rest of the story...

My personal tastes are primitive with some colonial and "country" thrown in.

When it comes to quilts, my go to fabrics are Civil War, reproduction and country.

I love scrappy quilts and the homey feeling they exude.  When it comes to decorating, my tastes are also very eclectic, or scrappy.  I am definitely not a "matchy-matchy" or "froo froo" kinda gal.  I like to mix different styles, eras, antiques, reproductions and new and old.  If you like it, they'll all blend together.  Really!

So you're probably asking yourself, "Where the heck is she going with this? Like, get to the point already!"

Okay, okay.

Remember I received two packages the other day and held off telling or showing you what was inside?

Just wait till you see what I got!

Sooooooo out of the box for me!!!

A bucket full of Kaffe Fassett fabrics!!!

Can you believe it???

Now if there's anything further from CW or reproduction fabrics than Kaffe's, I'd like to see them!

I needed and wanted to try something new and although they are soooooo not my style, I've always been very attracted to them.  Perhaps it's my artist background with the giant splashes of color and design elements.

I'm not 100% certain what I'm going to make with them but I did purchase this school house dye for my GO cutter last week and I'm thinking of making a Kaffe-scrappy school house quilt.

Wouldn't that look sooooooo cool?

One thing for sure, they certainly brighten up my sewing studio!

  2. I've also been attracted to the Kaffe Facett fabrics, but haven't bought any yet. I have bought quite a few of the modern fabric collections as seen on Red Pepper Quilts, but, while I love the bright colours, they just aren't for me. I always go back to the Civil War and reproduction fabrics. I tried making a few quilts from the modern fabric, but I never seem to get them finished. I think it's Civil War for me all the way. Good luck with your Kaffe fabrics, I'll be very interested to see what you do with them. The schoolhouse pattern looks like it would be awesome with these prints.

  7. Looks like fun. Always an adventure to step outside your comfort zone. Have you seen the miniature paper pieced house quilt called The House That Kaffe Built from McCall's?

  8. When Kaffe fabrics first came out (years ago!), I hated them. I couldn't imagine buying them and couldn't understand why anyone would. Now, they are my favorite fabric--especially the ones designed by Philip Jacobs. I suspect they will grow on you. It is an amazing thing--they all just work together. I think you will find you'll enjoy working with the bright colors and that they will actually make you feel happier! Have fun!

  9. Good for you. I made the transition myself a couple of years ago and never looked back so hold on to your hat girlfriend. You may be in for a great ride. I agree with Janet, the bright colors seem to make me happy and are encouraging. I love the idea of the houses, that would be a great quilt. Good luck and share when you can.

  10. Well this is very interesting! I too am a reproduction person, and I have a very large collection to prove my point. But, for some reason, like you, I am attracted to Kaffe's fabrics. I just know you will do something marvelous with them. We are all waiting on pins and needles. Thanks for sharing.

  11. Add me to the list who are attracted by the bright and happy colors of Kaffe's fabrics. I too am a traditional quilter, BUT I'm thinking of buying and using some Kaffe fabrics for the La Passagalia quilt. I've seen some done and they are such a wonderful cacophony of color! I expect to cave soon. :-)

  12. I love to veer from my "safe" palette and am thrilled you're willing to give it a go. Congratulations! Some folks never stray from their comfort zone, whether it be color, pattern, piecing, or quilting techniques!

  14. The saying goes : "a change is as good as a holiday". Enjoy the challenge of working outside your comfort zone. I am sure you will find it very rewarding and perhaps have a spectacular new quilt to show for all the effort as well.

  15. Kaffee"s fabrics are so "outside my comfort zone"! I like more traditional fabrics, but I purchased a Kaffee jelly roll of blues/greens to make a quilt for my daughter-in-law. Last count she had been on 21 Caribbean cruises and has hopes for more! She loved the quilt, it is exactly what she likes. It is perfect for her, I am very happy I decided to purchase that "wild" fabric.
