Mystery Quilt-Along Step 5

Step 5 to our Mystery Quilt-Along is now a wrap.  Yay!

Addendum:  By sheer coincidence, this You Tube video on how to make prairie points by Jennifer Bosworth of Shabby Fabrics just appeared on my Facebook newsfeed.  Here's the link...

I love the look of prairie points and I really like how they unite the entire theme of the quilt thus far by echoing the flying geese.

For the instructions and photo please click HERE for the link to the PDF file.

The finished size for Step 5 after adding the prairie points and border is 82 1/2"L x 78 1/2" W.

I was going to add another step but I just might stop here.

I need your help so what do you all think?

The next step that I was considering would add an additional 10"-12" to the perimeter making it approximately 92" x 88".   I'll see what you all have to say before making my final decision.

Happy stitching!

  2. Prairie points are a great conclusion. They signal the end.

  3. Love the prairie points Kaaren and I think it looks finished. However in saying that I would be interested in seeing what you would add to make it bigger. I have been slow doing mine because of another couple of projects I have to get done but am anxious to progress on this one.
I thought you might be interested to know that we all made your sunflower pincushion at our first meeting of the Keswick Ridge Quilters last night. Such a fun project and so cute. Thanks for that pattern as well.

  4. I also make quilts!! After all the work you have put in this I would go ahead and add to it. This is so beautiful. Oh, and I painted for 20 some years before really getting into quilting.

  5. I really like this quilt as is but I'd also like it bigger. I see this quilt on our sofa with my 6+ foot husband ....and since I'd like to join him snuggling bigger is better.
Or you make it bigger and each of us can decide where to stop with ours😳

  6. I also have a tall husband and fin some quilts don`t quite cover the sides of our bed.
Love the steps of this quilt so far but we are putting down new carpet in stages for our whole house, so some things packed away so slow going. Happy Stitching.

  9. Hi Kaaren, I love this quilt and can't wait to make one for myself. I usually like to make my borders darker so it frames my work. If I was to change your quilt I might cut down the border you have now just a little bit and add a pieced border made of strips like your inner border so it ties everything in. But really the quilt is beautiful the way it is. I can't wait to start. Thanks so much for sharing your creation with all of us. Kelly

  10. This looks really great. If I would start the quilt now, I would add the row of houses you originally had there, because I like the quilts clearly longer than they are wide. Maybe I will add something to both ends before the final border and make the quilt "my own". It has been great fun making the quilt. I'm at the French Braid still, it is coming together slowly.

  14. Absolutely love this quilt and all that you share. You are so talented Kaaren. I haven't started this quilt but I think it will be the next one on my list for sure. I love scrappy. Could you share your idea that you had for the last border as I would like to make it a lilttle larger. Thanks again for all the sharing you do.
