Every evening around 7:30, I make my last trip to the barn to check on The Girls. Last evening was no different.
When I returned to the house about ten minutes later and entered into the mud room to take off my ‘mucking out’ boots, I turned around and just happened to glance out the window which overlooks the ‘back forty’. The young doe in the distance was staring back at me.
I’ve learned from experience that they don’t remain in one spot for very long so I ran into the kitchen and grabbed my camera.
I used the zoom feature to bring her closer.
She stopped just long enough to grab a few morsels…
then turned around and disappeared back into the woods.
Pleasant dreams, young lady.

Since red, white and blue are my favorite colors, they can be found in abundance around our home, both inside and out.
The red, white and blue annuals in the planter boxes on our front veranda are enjoying the summer weather…
as well as those in the antique wheel barrow that graces our front yard.
We even have a little patriotic corner in our dining room.
See the blue African violets to the right and red and white ones to the left on the tea cart? The hooked sampler above is a one-of-a-kind treasure that I picked up in Berlin, Ohio in 2003 while on a teaching assignment. It was designed and hooked by Melanie Owens as a tribute to 9/11.

Peaceful surroundings. On occasion we see deer on our neighborhood walking path. Thrilling for Abby I tell ya! Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteWhile I was staying with my dad after my mom's death, a momma deer and her two babies would visit in the field behind the house. Drove my Scotties crazy! They visited quite frequently; I could recognize the differences in their personalities, or is it deeralities?! One would stick close to momma and the other would venture off, but then run quickly back to her. They are beautiful!

ReplyDeleteThey are beautiful but very destructive in our area. They come right into town and love to eat impatience,roses, and hosta.

ReplyDeleteLove your wallhanging - I also plant a red, white and blue flower planter each Spring - I miss not being able to do that this year. We have triplet fawns this year and often see mom and babies frolicking in our field in the evenings. Isn't nature a wonderful thing to watch. So pieceful. Judy C

I have been seeing more deer in our backyard, just love sitting on the porch and watching the birds and bunnies, a good way to center ourselves.

Lovely to see the doe. Many years ago when we moved into our new house, I came down one early morning to see a deer in my back yard. I never thought to grab a camera. They are so beautiful
