Three down…

And ZERO to go!  Woo hoo!

As of this morning, my third and last WIP is now quilted and bound.

DSCN0780

This was a fun sampler to make.  It was offered by The Temecula Quilt Company over the 12 days of Christmas and is aptly referred to by the same name.

Here’s the reverse side.

This little quilt was so much fun to make and I’ll be anxiously waiting to see what they have in store for us this Christmas!

Two weeks ago today was my final radiation treatment and I am happy to say that my strength and stamina are getting stronger with each passing day.  Today is the first day where I can say that the wounds and burns have just about healed and if I could do a back handspring to celebrate, I would!

But rather than break my neck, this morning I decided to bake a carrot cake to celebrate instead.

DSCN0778

Mr. Painted Quilt and I each had a piece with lunch but I think that our resident life-sized, two-legged mouse helped himself to seconds while my back was turned.   *wink*

DSCN0779

Know how I can tell?

See that crooked cut on the right side?  I would never do that!  I’d just have to cut myself another piece…just to even it off!   *wink*

SO now that my three WIP’s are finished, I can now start on a new project without feeling guilty.

I didn’t want to copy a picture without asking for permission first so if you’d like to see what my next project is going to be…complete with tutorial…just go HERE.

Don’t you just it?

After hemming and hawing over which fabrics to use…Civil War or 1930’s reproduction…

DSCN0786

Frankie and I decided to go with the 1930’s fabrics.

DSCN0787

Don’t they just bring a smile to your face?  I had forgotten how much I really L-O-V-E them!

DSCN0788

I’ll probably start to iron the fabrics after my power nap this afternoon and begin the cutting tonight.

Three finishes in two weeks!  There’s no stopping me now!

I am so happy to hear all your wounds are healing. I have hoped this would be a good week of resting, quilting and healing. Good Girl.

  20. Congratulations on another beautiful finish. I really liked that top, and it is fun to see it all put together. The front looks perfect with the backing and quilting.

I am going to have to get some reproduction fabric. I would like to do a retro themed quilt for my bedroom and a Civil War quilt from Barbara Brackman's celebration blog. :)

I had to laugh. After I ate lunch today, my cherry chip cake had a cut into one side from a dull knife. That can drive me nuts! So, I was forced to get out a sharp knife and have dessert with lunch. I guess that my son can take the blame for that! ;)

  34. Your finish looks fabulous, Kaaren.

How did my mouse get all the way to your house so quickly? He seems like he is always around here.

I think that Granny Square quilt calls for the 30's fabrics. Every time I see one done, I think I should start one with the 30s fabrics. I can't wait to see yours.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Hope you enjoy the weekend. xox

The Granny Squares quilt is on my "to do" list. I'll have to compare this tutorial to the pattern I downloaded and see whose method I like best.
It will be such a happy quilt in those 30s fabrics!

  39. well done! It looks lovely.
Your new project is a winner too. The tutorial was great, I imagined it would be harder than that. It will look fantastic in the 30's fabrics.
My hub leaves enough clues for a csi team when he pinches food too. He would have left a crooked cut as well.

  42. Kaaren,

I'm so glad to hear your energy and spirit are healing so fast.

Lovely job on the quilting, wish I could share the carrot cake.

I have to check out your next project, did you see the basket quilt on Temencula quilts?

  43. Well, Kaaren, you're just full of vim and vigor.
So, so happy to hear you're recovering from the after-effects of your treatment. Yea, for you.
I can image your back-handspring. Hey, I could never do even a front handspring :*)
Carrot Cake is never safe. Nearly every time it disappears, mysteriously.
Oh, I've got more 2.5" square than I could ever use. Would this Granny Square quilt not be the very bestest of ways to get a dee-lish quiltette made?????
    biggest and tightest of hugs,

  48. Congrats on your 12 Days of Christmas finish. I feel so bad, I still haven't finished mine, or my Pink Lemonade. I've got to start this weekend. It's the quilting that's holding me back. Love your choice of 30s fabrics for the granny square quilt. This is going to be another beauty. I love Civil War fabrics, but I think this particular pattern will look better with the 30s prints. Hope to see some pictures soon. This is another pattern for my "to do" list.

  49. Woo-hoo! Well done on 3 finishes in 2 weeks!

  50. So glad you are feeling better Kaaren! Good job on all those finishes! And, good choice on the cake versus the back flip - LOL! (I'd have to even that cake up too) You are going to love those granny squares! I am having a ball doing mine. I think the 30s prints are a great choice for that quilt! Hugs o:)

  52. It must be spring fever or something in the water because I have this whole lot of knitted items that just need a bit of work to finish them. I have been on a roll this weekend to get them done. I have 3 pairs of socks and one single, two pair of mittens, and an afghan that need the toes finished up or ends woven in. The afghan is crocheted and just needs a bordering round of single crochet to finish it. I've got absolutely no sewing projects in the works yet although there is a quilt along coming up in June that I have signed up for and will clear the decks to do! I'm so glad you are feeling better - must be all that kitty healing!
