It’s That Time…Almost!

The phone rang last night and guess who it was?

Contractor Graphic
Our contractor!!!

He was calling to say that he’ll be at our house as soon as Wednesday of next week…or even sooner if they finish the job that they’re working on before that.  I’m sooooo excited I can cry!  I know that we’ve only been here for two months but when you’re living out of boxes…three fourths of which are still taped shut waiting to be unpacked…it seems like centuries.

In the meantime, Mr. Painted Quilt and | have been working feverishly on the upper level floors.  The primer went down on Sunday and we applied the first topcoat yesterday.  We love the way it looks.

The stairs…

SAM_1033
The hallway from the top of the stairs.   Our bedroom is at the end on the left and Mr. PQ’s office on the right.

SAM_1034
And from the other direction looking towards my studio at the end and at the top of the stairs, the soon-to-be walk-in closet on the left,  guest room on the right and the bathroom on the left.

SAM_1038
We emptied the guest bedroom where about half of the unpacked boxes were stored in order to paint the floor and to allow our contractor free access to paint the room next week.

SAM_1035
When we emptied the spare bedroom of the boxes and other paraphernalia, guess where it ended up?

SAM_1039
In my studio of course!  Now how am I going to get in there in order to do the necessary paperwork for tomorrow’s FFF?  Don’t worry, I’ll get in there somehow.

The master bedroom.

SAM_1036
The floors are done but there’s still lots to do in here.  The curtains and light fixture will be replaced and the entire room will be repainted as soon as the closet is built along this wall…

SAM_1037
The room is quite large and the addition of a 12’ closet won’t detract at all from it’s size.

And during all this,  I’ve managed to fit in some hooking time in the evenings.

After all, isn’t that when hookers do the most of their work?  *wink*

See y’all tomorrow!

  1. It never looks like we have much until we move it. I'm really looking forward to seeing the stencil/painting you're going to do on the stairs.

  2. Wow Kaaren, The floors look great. Sure wish we had y'alls drive. Can't wait to get all our floors painted. I can totally understand the living out of boxes. Living between two houses is getting to be a real hassle. Love your bedroom too. Keep your chins up.
    Y'all take care, Linda

  10. Love what you are doing! So cozy and "wow" those floors look great! I am looking forward to seeing the stencil/painting you are going to do on the stairs. I have a few friends that did that on the rise of the step. Wonderful! They also painted and stenciled canvas and made darling rugs. Just another idea for you--- :)Hee! Hee!

Older homes have so much character. Our's is a Georgian brick colonial build in the early 50's. They are alot of work but worth it.

Keep up the good work, so much fun to see what you are up to!

    See you tomorrow. Carolyn :)

  12. Looking good..I see lots of work! Are the floors real cold though? I ask because we have all hard woods over a basement. I much prefer summertime with these floors and my tootsies!

  19. My parents had no closets in their house since it was an old farmhouse. But they had cubbies under the rafters, so you had to go under the house to get things, lol.

  27. Wow Kaaren,

    You've been busy!

At first I thought I was on the wrong site with the stars and stripes decorating your blog. I thought I had entered the address incorrectly and had gone to an American site.

Glad to hear you will get an early start for your renovations and life will become more sane for you.

All the best, may the snows let up.

  29. The floors look wonderful. I can't imagine having boxes all over the house for so long. Hopefully you'll get them all unloaded soon after the contractor is done. At least you made sure to have some handwork to do. I've prepped about 4 projects to make sure that I don't run out. It's cheaper than therapy, right?

  30. YAY!!!!!!! Oh Kaaren that is just wonderful. The house is looking gorgeous!!! And I just love your bed with that quilt on it, oh my...I can imagine how relieved you're going to be when all those boxes are emptied, and OUT of your studio!!! Your rug is looking just lovely, good job - what a relaxing project!

  35. Hi Kaaren! This is a humongous amount of work done to your floors ~ you poor thing, you must be exhausted! Good news the contractor will arrive on the job very soon and once he finishes you can unpack and let the decorating begin. Things should be well sorted out by the time summer arrives. Good you take time for some hooking...it'll keep you sane, lol.
