Finally!

It’s hung!

Okay, it’s partially my fault because I couldn’t find the ‘perfect’ rod but finally, I did and finally, Mr. PQ  did his thing with the drill and it’s up…and I love it!  My A Primitive Garden quilt finally has a permanent home in our den.

DSCN0145

In order to free up some wall space large enough to accommodate the quilt, we had to do some rearranging of the furniture.  So come along with me and I’ll take you on a little tour.

The quilt is hanging on the wall to the left as you enter the den.

DSCN0146

Then, as we travel clockwise around the room, there’s the outside wall or the one with the window.

DSCN0147

Continuing in a clockwise direction is the wall with the sofa.  This is where I read and do most of my stitching…if I’m not at the kitchen table, i.e.

DSCN0152

Then there’s the last wall that backs onto the hallway.  You can see some things in the corner on the floor that I had to remove from the wall in order to hang the quilt.  Now I need to find a new home for them.

DSCN0149

And back to where we came in…

DSCN0150

As soon as the weather cools down, we’re going to take the room apart again in order to paint and then I’m going to do some stencilling.

border2longer_jpg_w560h78

While we’re at it, follow me into the garden.  The mid summer perennials are in full bloom and it’s very peaceful and quiet…except for the chickadees who keep on reminding me that it’s time I start to fill their feeders.

In the foreground, the red flowers are perennial hibiscus.  When fully open, the blooms are as large as a bread plate.

DSCN0155

Here’s a closer look.  Isn’t it beautiful?

DSCN0157

I think I’ll cut some rudbeckia when we’re done to freshen up my indoor bouquets.  I love these flowers and you can find them in several beds throughout the garden.

DSCN0161

Here’s a new one I started in the Spring from a tiny cutting, surrounded by Datura, or Angel’s Trumpet.

DSCN0159

It’s so peaceful at this time of the morning.  Hummingbirds drink water from the cup and saucer.

DSCN0160

Everything seems to to be waiting for Autumn to arrive…

DSCN0154

With the cooler nights and shorter days.

DSCN0166

Even Mac…who’s just chilling and waiting for the squirrels to waken.

DSCN0168

Happy stitching!

Kaaren ♥

  2. A touch of "KAAREN"...thank you so much. I LOVE seeing photos of wonderful bloggers - gives a "touch" of who they are.

And what is really cool is the teacup for the hummingbirds. I LOVE that idea. We have SO many hummingbirds I never thought about a watering place for them, only about feeding them. Thank you for the wonderful idea...and the wonderful slide-show.

  3. What a sense of pride you must have when you see a piece like that finally at home! What a sweet home too...full of wonderful treasures !!

Your garden is so pretty! I am amazed at how much is still in bloom. Even in years without a severe drought, mine is mostly gone by at this time of year. How nice to have so much color to enjoy still!! Just gorgeous!!!!!

  10. I'm amazed and jealous of you! All of your quilts are beautiful, you're obviously a wonderful cook, your yard and flowers are beautiful, and I didn't see a weed anywhere! HOW DO YOU DO IT?

I also have many flower beds, and ornamental grasses, but when we go for a long time with no rain and temps in the upper 90's it suffers. I have pink and white w/red center hibiscus. They are one of my favorite flowers, but to bad the blooms don't last longer!

  24. Looks gorgeous. Your m=home and yard look so comfy and cozy. Awww...Mac is so cute. I miss my little Westie, Chelsea, so much. She died about 10 years ago and I haven't had the heart to get another one yet (have gotten other breeds instead). But I might be ready for another one now. Hubby doesn't want any more small dogs though (he likes them bigger...me, too! I like 'em all!). I'll have to work on that one abit.

Dear Hubby is outside as I write this tilling under all of the vegetable garden and getting it ready for next year. The potted plants are at the end of their life and the perennials have seen better days.

    And the quilt .....ooohh lala!

  45. I would love to get more than a miniature up on the wall but with my own and my mother's collection of wall items.they are all full.
Just a thought...and I am sure there is a good reason why you have not done it...could that lovely little cabinet sit on the floor at the end of the stool...on on something small to lift if from the floor. You can see I want to see the whole of the lovely quilt. Love those rud......yellow flowers...have never tried them. We are starting Spring this week in Australia.......so I am into all the spring photography.

  46. Hello Kaaren,

I wanted to say how much I loved the quilt you've completed and to see it hanging...just sets the whole quilt off. You can be proud of yourself!!!

You'll be happy to know that the first Raggedy & Friends BOM I had completed the stitching on it, the day after it was uploaded. But I haven't shown you it, because it's in a "paper bag" swap with a group of 7 ladies in our local patchwork group. I'll be getting it back in December and so have no idea what they have added to it and how it will look. A lovely Christmas surprise to come my way and I'll "show you in due time."

I'm now stitching the Huswif Needlecase - but using the green DMC 3362 colour. So when that one is finished, I'll "show you in due time also!!!"

    Regards,

    Susan
