Quilt Show

Home at last!

I’m a member of the Hudson Village Quilters, a great group of quilters and even greater people.  Every two years we host a two day event to showcase the work of the talented members of our group.

It started on Friday afternoon with the dropping off of our quilts and set up.  The actual show took place from 9-5 on Saturday and Sunday.  I did kitchen duty on both days and the sandwiches and sweets that were provided by our members were scrumptious as usual.  I’m no dummy…I had first pick!  *wink*

So without further ado, here they are…and the pictures just don’t do them justice.

Hand appliquéd and hand quilted…

SAM_0260

Another hand appliquéd and hand quilted treasure.  Some of the pieces are so tiny.  The gal who made this quilt said that the original design featured soldiers carrying weapons and she elected to replace the weapons with musical instruments.

A Blackbird Design hand appliquéd and machine quilted.

Another hand appliquéd and hand quilted beauty using all batiks.

A closer look…

The free motion quilting on this next quilt is simply stunning.

SAM_0269

Perhaps you can see it better in the next photo which shows the back of the quilt.

SAM_0270

Nancy, my friend and  longarm quilter extraordinaire,  quilted both the previous quilt and this next one which was ‘just an exercise’ to practice different techniques.   Amazing!

SAM_0242

This is also one of Nancy’s practice quilts that she calls her ‘color wheel’ quilt.

SAM_0268

Can you notice that she changed out threads and the binding to correspond with each color.  You just have to see it in person to appreciate the work involved.

Remember this one?

SAM_0253

My ‘Raggedy & Friends’ quilt.  Nancy also custom quilted this one.

And this is our raffle quilt that our members pieced and hand quilted.  It was appraised at $2,700.  The proceeds from this quilt will go to a local hospice.

I have a whole bunch more pictures to show you which I’ll save for another post.  All in all the show was very successful and the traffic was steady for both days.  It would appear that the interest in things hand made and more specifically quilting, is alive and well.

Happy stitching!

Kaaren ♥

  2. Wonderful quilt show, just love the colors in the batik piece. Once I finish my other ones, I want to make some small batik art ones for my daughter. Will be good practice for machine quilting.
