Busily Waiting

Patience was not one of my positive virtues in my younger days.

Although I’ve mellowed somewhat and I’m a heck of a lot better now, I still struggle with the “P” word at times…like when I’m waiting for an order to arrive.  I think because we live in a small, rural town located halfway between two major cities, our mail gets re-routed and resorted to either one resulting in a delay and ultimately, a test of my patience.  They’re winning…trust me.

Yep, you guessed it…my stitching order has still not arrived.  *sigh*  I know it’s been sent because I received an envelope in my mail box this past Wednesday with a receipt of my credit card charges, so it most definitely is not the supplier’s fault.  It’s the postal system…testing my patience again.  *grrrrr*

So what’s a gal to do?  I don’t want to start a new project because I’ll be doing that as soon as my order arrives.  Now look what I pulled out of hiding!

You can tell by the folds that it’s been hidden away for a while but I managed to add  the two hexie flowers on the bottom right this morning.  All of the flowers have been made and are just waiting to be added.

I still have another 6 rows of flowers to add and I know that I’ll run out of the connecting “pathways” before I’m done, so they will have to be made up at some point.  Thank goodness I’m not in a rush to get this completed. I gave myself two years to complete this quilt…and guess what?   The two years will be up in September. ..of this year.   I’m cautiously optimistic…very cautious.  *wink*img63_thumb2

In the interim, I’ve been knitting my socks at night while watching the Olympics and I’ve also designed another quilt.  The preliminary sketches and line drawings have been done.  Now I just have to fine tune them, complete the stitched blocks and then piece and assemble the quilt.

My “betwixt and between” funk didn’t last too long and I’m on a roll again!

Happy stitching!

Kaaren ♥

  1. I do get peeved with USPS. They are inept. It sometimes takes three weeks for a letter to get to CA from here in mid-MO.
We've had pretty good luck with FedEx and even UPS since their tracking at least lets a person know where things were last scanned. And, they've been prompt so far.
Hugs, with hopes your goodies get to you SOON,
    Gerry

  2. Your hexi's are looking good. I've committed to only working on hexi's while I watch the olympics. I'm making headway but as you, I'm out of the pathway color. I only need to make about 300 more ;-)

  4. Hi Kaaren,
Love your hexies. You are so much further along than I am. Funny part is, you gave yourself 2 years...I told my husband it would be my 50th anniversary gift to him. We will celebrate our 23rd anniversary this summer. No pressure on me!!
    Take care,
    ~Karen~

  7. I also have a hexagon quilt somewhere stored away, and somewhere close to being finished. I think I like the colors of yours better than mine.

  9. I love your flowers. I have some I'm working on too that will take long time to finally finish. But that's okay, I think hexie quilts are just for inbetween times anyway...so perfect for that. Hope your package arrives very soon...and safely.

  10. Good for you to pick up and get going. I've done this quilt and I too picked it up over a 2 year period. I found it mindless and soothing while traveling or watching TV.

  16. Hi Kaaren, Honestly, I think your blog is the most interesting blog that I read. Everytime I come here I get so involved in your post and your beautiful quilts and projects. The Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt will be marvelous when finished...it is pretty now! Hope your package arrives soon. I know how it feels to be anxiously waiting for the postman to bring the goodies.

  18. I have a friend who works in for the post office ironically he is the efficiency department he has travel all over our country trouble shooting and tells me that where I live has the most efficient post office in the country so rarely do I get frustrated with the post. On the bright side, look what you've accomplished while you waiting.

  19. The mailman can be quite slow at times and then at other times it totally amazes me with its speed. Love your hexagon squares quilt and I am glad you are over the funk.

  20. Kaaren,
I love the hexagon quilt! I may have to try that one day, too! I still have the strip quilt to try. I was waiting to finish Af's quilt first and I did that on Friday night. Today, I picked up fabric to start my Americana rag quilt for my bed! We crafters like to get a lot going at once, don't we? :D

  21. Kaaren, some things are meant to be - your hexies are just lovely and probably crying for attention. Look at it as the excitement of anticipation - wise words, from someone just like you, lol! I don't practice what I preach!

  22. Glad to hear you're rolling again, Kaaren! We have trouble with our postal service too - the next street over has a different street name, but the SAME house numbers. Mostly they do ok, but sometimes our regular guy takes a day off and it's a crapshoot whether or not you get your mail or the neighbors do.

Love your hexies - they are SO pretty!

  23. *LOL* I'm also not a patience at all, so I know what you are going through. I love your hexagons, but you must hurry to finish it.

  24. Well that is great you getting back into things. Sometimes we just need a break.

Hope you get your order soon.

  26. I started a Paper Pieced Hex quilt when DS was in Little League, I think he was 11 or 12. I made the pieces while he was at practice. I have the quilt together, finally, and I even appliqued the quilt to strips of fabric so that I would not have to do those funky edges when I put the binding on.
Guess What????? He'll be 28 next month! I'll get it done...someday!
