I don't have too much to write about because I really haven't been doing anything too exciting, apart from the odd snatched moments where I've felt like picking up needle and thread. Surprisingly though, the days just seem to fly by and thankfully, boredom seems to have eluded me.
I'm plugging away on my redrawn Down in the Garden quilt by Leanne Beasley.
I think I have an additional four blocks to complete after the one I'm working on and hopefully by that time I'll have been given the green light to be able to put full weight on my operated hip/leg so I can once again climb the stairs to my sewing studio and start to cut and assemble the patchwork blocks. It's been about seven weeks since I've been up there and I can just imagine the parties that the dust bunnies have been enjoying!
I think we've had as much snow in the last two weeks as we've had in the four years that we've lived in Nova Scotia!
I'm scheduled to see the orthopaedic surgeon this coming Tuesday which will mark six weeks since my surgery. Hopefully the roads will be cleared enough by then as we are expecting two more snowstorms, one this Friday and the other on Sunday or Monday. His offices and the hospital are seventy long miles away.
I feel like I am getting stronger with each passing day and am sooooo looking forward to being self sufficient once again.
Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and good wishes as I continue down the road to recovery.
Happy stitching!
We have been getting one storm after the other, so I have been hibernating, lol. I already hurt my hip once and it still hurts, so no walking on ice for me. I hope you feel better soon and heal completely.

Hope you get a good report at your Dr. visit. We also have a 2 story house and I worry about having hip/knee problems. I think that I'd have to live upstairs and have my meals brought to me. Your snowfall sure has been a lot and we in the NW are doing without. My spring flowers are up and blooming it's been so warm.
ReplyDeleteWarm, snowless wishes coming your way. Your stitchery is beautiful
ReplyDeleteinch by inch life's a cinch....but moves slowly for us impatient types....hang in there!
ReplyDeleteAlways good to see a post from you. Your stitchery is coming along so well! Yes, a lot of snow in the forecast, but hopefully the roads will be well clearerd for your trip. Wishing you all the best!
ReplyDeleteHi Kaaren,
ReplyDeleteI live just south of Boston, and we have never had a winter like this. The snow just keeps coming! I spent the afternoon trying to rake some of the snow off my garage roof. Stay warm and safe and best of luck at your next doctor's appointment.
Hope you are getting stronger each day...hang in there my friend.
ReplyDeleteI've missed you blogging Kaaren...hope you are on the mend. Yes, uhuh! The dust bunnies just LoVe it when we give them free range :), for the time being...then they better scoot! Your needlework is coming along beautifully.
ReplyDeleteHugs. Marg.
Dearest Kaaren, how good it is to hear that you are improving. Hopefully, you will have clear roads and a good trip to see the dr. When you get back to the studio you will feel a strengthening I am sure. Take care, best wishes.
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear things are improving! I know its hard to be inactive but the rest will help in the long run! Keep Well
ReplyDeleteI had both hips replaced last year, and I saw the Physical therapist twice a week for several month. I find it unusual that you aren't having Physical Therapy. I assume you have a different type of hip problem that I did. I've permanently moved my sewing room to the main floor. I don't have as much room, but I don't have to worry about not being able to sew. I have several issues with pain, including 3 different kinds of Arthritis, and at age 55, it's tough to be so limited and not be able to work. If you would like to talk, you can contact me. cdahlgren at live dot com
ReplyDeleteI faithfully read your blog but I seldom post. I'm so glad you are doing better and I hope you get a good report from the doctor.
ReplyDeleteHi Kaaren, I discovered your blog through your wonderful quilt pattern in Primitive Quilts. I am actually just getting ready to start the stitching. I was wondering if you use a backing fabric when you stitch your blocks.
ReplyDeleteI was so sorry to hear about your health problems and your latest hip surgery. I fell walking my 2 dogs 9 years ago and at age 53 broke my hip. No weight on it for 2 months and I was not prepared for it at all. I can relate to how you are feeling but so glad to hear that you are feeling better.
I have been enjoying your blog/fb very much and am impressed at how many free patterns you have provided. I am looking forward to the Spring issue of PQ.
Take care
Mary Stiles
Given the weather, this could be a great time to pamper yourself. Come this summer your going to be running around all the quilt stores and dancing on quilt tables you'll be feeling so good. Hang in there. Be patient. I do so hope you are feeling 100% very soon.

PS - Your stitchery project is truly lovely.
So glad you are healing up well. I'm praying for good guidance from your surgeon. Funny thing to pull out of this post but oh my goodness, 4 years have gone by since you moved there? I have enjoyed reading your posts about your home, garden and fur creatures. Time is going by quickly for me, I guess 😳
ReplyDeleteHappy stitching!
Hope you continue to mend, and all goes well. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWith the winter weather, it's better to stay inside near the woodstove, but I do pray you'll be able to make your appointment safely. So glad to hear you're feeling stronger each day. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine what a long time it has Ben for you. I hope the appointment goes well for you. Keep climbing!
ReplyDeleteI have been keeping you in my prayers for a smooth recovery and am glad to hear that you are feeling stronger.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you have good travel conditions for your appointment and that you get a good report from the doctor!
Snow, Snow go away! Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI love your stitchery. So glad you can stitch and pass the time. I have been recovering from a concussion and there are days I can stitch and days I can't. Wish you could send some of that snow to California! We need it! Looking forward to seeing your stitchery made into a quilt when it is time to do that. K-
ReplyDeleteAs I hop around blogs to catch up.... After my 19 day epic stay in hospital for my knee. I come across your blog,... Lovely stitching, so pleased you are stitching, I cannot seem to pick up my needle ...little by little I guess? You may have just inspired me to do a little stitching today :) And such a pretty design you are stitching too.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a speedy recovery, cannot wait to see your stitching made into a wonderful quilt.
Smiles :)
Your stitchery is going to look so lovely! I wish you a good recovery and a safe trip to see your doctor.
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear you are mending and healing.
ReplyDeleteWhen you are able to bear weight and return to your upstairs stash it will be wonderful
Your doing a lot more then me right now. I fell on the icey steps five weeks ago and broke my ankle in three places. All my sewing, needlework, etc are upstairs as well. So I can totally relate with you right now in that department. I would send DH up for supplies, but I was in the middle of remodeling my room, so I have no idea where anything is as it's all boxed up. He'd never find what I wanted. I've worked on some hexi blocks that was thankfully down stairs where I can reach them. But that is about all I"ve accomplished. I am very thankful for time flying by however at time I get restless and want to get upstairs to my room and see if I can locate some needed things. May God heal you quickly and all go well with your upcoming Otho. Visits.
ReplyDeleteKaaren, in some ways having all this snow is a blessing. You aren't tempted to go out and do things that might end up in re injuring yourself.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with your stitching and look forward to the big melt and arrival of spring!
Beautiful stitchery, Kaaren. So sorry you're not able to get up to your sewing room yet. But how fabulous when you can. Everything will look so new to you. Safe trip to your doctor next week. Seventy miles can go by in a flash ordinarily, but when there is snow, and the roads are slippery, it can take so much longer.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear mending is still happening. I think the snow has colluded to keep you in your house and taking advantage of the well-needed down time. I love your stitched block and can't wait to see the rest, but no pressure! Good luck with your appt.
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how excited you will be to put weight on that leg and be able to function again. My 35 year old daughter was in an auto accident Jan. 8. She broke and dislocated both bones in her left leg near the ankle. She had surgery with a plate and screws and has been home with a walker and no weight on that leg. She will find out Feb. 18 what the next "step" is in her recovery. Your stitching looks lovely, keep your upbeat attitude and hugs from Ohio.
ReplyDeleteHi Kaaren, Oh, I hope you are feeling so much better and that when you go back to see the surgeon ....he will say you are doing well! Your "embroidery garden" is beautiful. What a marvelous quilt you are making!
ReplyDeletePrayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery! I'm glad you have some hand work to keep your mind off of what's upstairs!
ReplyDeleteJudy
Well one might say this being your second go 'round with being house bound .......you know what it's like and what to expect. I sat no way when you are an active person it is difficult to be "benched " no mater how many times it happens.
ReplyDeleteHoping this is it for you, do be careful so this time your hip heals correctly ! You remain in my prays
Colleen
Your embroidered block looks fabulous. I hope you have a speedy recovery. I know you have got to be so sick of being stuck inside. I think it would drive me bananas.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine not being in my studio for that long! It's hard for me to believe that you haven't gone 100% berserk. I anxiously look forward to you managing the stairs again! Good luck Tuesday!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are seeing improvement. Good luck on Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stitchery. You are very talented.
ReplyDeleteso thankful you are on the mend. Try to enjoy your down time. You do such lovely work!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear you're doing well. I hope you can safely get to your doctors appointment next week. It sounds like you've had more than enough snow!
ReplyDeleteKaaren, just found your Noah and Friends quilt in Primitive Quilts and Projects and I love it. Super job! Hope you are staying warm. Finally above zero (F) today in Maine!
ReplyDeleteYou just inspired me! I picked up some "white fabric scraps" at a local thrift store that turned out to be linen squares that look very much like ones my grandmother used in the early 20th century. Even a small quilt made with them would be lovely. (Uh-oh, now my brain will be dreaming not just quilt patterns but embroidery patterns as well!)
ReplyDeleteKeep healing!
