We planted about 85% of them the first summer after we moved here so this will be their third full growing season. Every one of them has matured beautifully and they're a delight to behold.
Won't you join me in my Sunday morning stroll?
In addition to the flowering gardens, one of the best things about this time of year and until mid October is that our local Farmers' and Traders' Market is in full swing.
Every Saturday morning Mr. Painted Quilt, Ollie and I head to town bright and early while it's still cool and everything is as fresh as can be. I forgot to bring my camera yesterday but we managed to come home with lots of goodies including freshly picked strawberries from a local farm, a crusty olive bread, a pound of the best scallops in the world caught locally in the Bay of Fundy and some green and yellow beans.
Here's all that's left of the strawberry rhubarb pie that I baked yesterday afternoon.
Yup, it was that good!
Do you think that there will be any left by the time dinner time rolls around?
Happy stitching!
Beautiful flower pics!!!!

It's always dangerous to have a pie in the house. A piece for breakfast, a piece after lunch, and suddenly there is nothing left for dinner!! Your garden looks lovely. A real color inspiration for your quilting. Thanks for the show. Kathie L in Allentown
ReplyDeleteFor sure it's paradise with you....
ReplyDeletePie is yummy for breakfast, lunch AND dinner! Your garden is gorgeous -- such beautiful colors. What is the tall pink flower spike in the second photo?
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed my Sunday morning stroll with you. Thank you for taking me along. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that I stopped by and was able to stroll in your garden....beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are beautiful! And I love a good Farmer's Market. We visited three while traveling, but couldn't really buy much....since we were traveling. One of the true joys of summer!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are just beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing them! :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stroll in your beautiful garden. I envy you your good Canadian earth. Wish you could send so,e to Texas!
ReplyDeleteyummmmm, fresh rhubarb pie. I don't think it's going to make it to dinner!
ReplyDeleteYour garden is beautiful! The flowers are Mother Nature's gift to us.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour. Very lovely and a happy way to start the day :)
ReplyDeleteLove that second flower in your pictures...the tall pink one...do you know the name? I think I have all of the others in my dwindling flower beds.
ReplyDeletethanks for the lovely photos of your flowers...my sister always told me perennials sleep the first year, creep the second year and leap the third year...
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed my Sunday morning stroll through your garden. I, too, just posted photos from my garden on my blog. Your iris, lupine, and poppies are beautiful, and the pie looks yummy, too!
ReplyDeleteI love a good Sunday morning stroll among the flowers, and yours are so beautiful. And I doubt if a rhubarb strawberry pie would last as long as yours did in our house. I LOVE pie, any kind. It's wonderful living by the seashore, we have great seafood here on the west coast as well. Spot prawns at the moment.
ReplyDeleteKaaren your flower beds are beautiful and I am surprised that everyone doesn't know that the tall pink flower is a lupin. I don't know about in nova Scotia but here in New Brunswick, lupins grow wild. They are at their best right now and in all the colour variants, red, pink, yellow, cream, blue and violets, they are truly beautiful. I wish they would grow in our garden, they seem to prefer the rocky ground. Truly an inspiration for fabric.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the stroll thru your garden :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the stroll in your garden, and I can almost taste that pie. I am trying to reduce my intake of sweet food/fat for health reasons, and am having massive withdrawal symptoms. It may require a midnight feast, when I am not looking....do you think I could fool myself :-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flowers and pie...yummy
ReplyDeleteYour gardens are lovely! And the pie looks delicious, as I can imagine it is! I haven't made it to the market yet this season, maybe next week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful stroll you took. Thanks for sharing it with us. It is such a terrific time of year. I'm betting that the pie was done by lunch. It looks scruptous.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are just beautiful!! Well worth the long wait. I'm sure glad it's started warming up, now, though. Here by the ocean, it's been a bit on the chilly side! Hope you are well.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are just gorgeous, Kaaren. All of the work planting them has paid off in their performance this year. Thanks for the stroll.
ReplyDeleteLove lupine, and poppies and honeysuckle....awesome photos Kaaren!
ReplyDeletesuch beautiful flowers, just lovely. no place like a garden! enjoy!
ReplyDeletethe farmer's market here is just now getting going, only 4 vendors this week, but soon, more to come!

Your photos are amazing...I'm not sure even seed catalogs can rival! Thanks for a lovely blog!
ReplyDeleteThe flowers look so fresh and beautiful! I miss our midwestern garden while living down here in Florida. Thanks for sharing a little bit of home for me today.
ReplyDeleteLovely gardens especially nice after all our rain. The lupin and poppy is gorgeous. The lupine are all along the highways now, I love to see them, pink and purple and white
ReplyDeleteYum, Fresh Digby scallops delish!
Such a lovely stroll! All your flowers are beautiful. The pie looks scrumptious. I made a strawberry/rhubarb pie with fresh strawberries and rhubarb from my garden. Had to take my mom for an appointment that took the whole day. Got home to find that hubby at the entire pie -- I didn't even get a taste! He sure was a happy guy, lol.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are beautiful and so is the photography! You're so multi-talented...and you can bake, too! Where is my piece?
ReplyDeleteSuch a Beautiful Sunday stroll ~ Thanks for inviting us along!
ReplyDeletePrim Blessings

What a gorgeous garden you have Kaaren!!! All that planting really has reaped rewards, they are looking very settled and happy in their place!!!! I love going to Farmers' markets too, and rhubarb is one of my favourite pie fillings!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour flower garden is beautiful. Next thing we know you will have it duplicated in a beautiful quilt. Take care and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYour pie looks yummy! Your could mix and freeze the fruit for pies during the winter - hooray for ziplock freezer bags.
ReplyDeleteMy cousin brought me a jar of her homemade strawberry-rhubarb jam. It's such a treat! Do you make jam?
Sounds like you're having as much rain as we are here in the desert, Kaaren! Your garden is gorgeous - thanks for a wonderful stroll :>) I think you're lucky to have that much pie left! In our house if Mr. Squash hadn't gotten to it by dinner, Gracie May and Sasha might have ;>)
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Your flowers are lovely. I'll bet they don't get cooked by the sun in the same way mine do. I'm still trying to adjust to the very hot sun here! :-)
ReplyDeleteAll of your pictures are wonderful, Kaaren.... but the last picture is the yummiest...I'm sure it's all gone now! :)
