The boxes are being unpacked and the furniture is finding a preliminary place to rest. It is our intention to paint every wall and ceiling in our new home and eventually every piece of furniture will have to be moved again to allow us to accomplish this. Even though it’s only been a few days since our furniture and other belongings arrived, I was finding it very unsettling to live in this prolonged state of chaos.
Here are a few peeks of some of the ‘presentable’ areas of the main floor of our house.
The sitting room…
Another angle…
The dining room…
The living room with the gross light fixture and wallpaper…
and my quilt cupboard.
The kitchen is about 75% complete and is functional.
One of the coolest features about the kitchen is the oil stove which provides a mean heat and makes the room wonderfully cozy.
This view is going out to the back. As you can see, as soon as one box is emptied, two more seem to materialize. *sigh*
We dropped Mac off at the vet’s this morning to have his teeth cleaned and as we were driving around waiting to pick him up, I snapped these photos of Granville Ferry just across the river from Annapolis Royal. We had a light dusting of snow last night and everything looked so clean and fresh.
We still have a very long way to go to make this house ‘ours’ and are going to take it just one step at a time. There’s no rush…after all, we’re retired!
I’m hoping to get a start on my studio this weekend. Let’s see if that happens.
Oh to be stitching!
Kaaren ♥
Hello Kaaren, Your new home is looking lovely. Everything seems to be falling into place. Love looking at your waterways. Neat. Hugs Judy
ReplyDeleteIt's beginning to take shape. You're going to love it there! Being near the ocean is so fulfilling.
ReplyDeleteFeels like home. I have a feeling your quilt room will be together in a wink of an eye!
ReplyDeleteYour new home is lovely! I love your cozy stove.. what a wonderful feature! Your things- your rugs and such are turning it into a cozy home!
ReplyDeleteOh...it is going to be lovely.....the floors look beautiful and I love the stove. One step at a time. You two are going to be so happy.
ReplyDeleteSusannah
you have done a lot already! it looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYou've done so well in a short time Kaaren. Looks like you will have the home of your dreams very soon.
ReplyDeleteMarge
Kaaren you are just amazing. you have some much done already and look right at home...I miss you knowing I could have only driven 6hours to see you. Your new home is stunning, when you are on a mission to get something done you do it!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely lovely home you have enjoy all those new nook and crannies it is all yours to discover.
Wow Kaaren, I think you have made HUGE progress in just a few days. Even having a picture up ;-) We still find that we are getting the feel of the house, and sometimes a chair gets moved here or there. But in my mind I kind of knew where I wanted most pieces. What fun, I can't wait to see your house once it is painted and all decorated. It will be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is starting to look a lot like ''home''... and I do agree on that light and wall paper YUCK hahaha xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Kaaren: Things are looking lovely - it already has your stamp upon it. And good luck with all the details. That oil stove inthe kitchen is causing me to think a lot about the possibility in my house - at the moment I heat with a combination of wood and electric and as electric rises in price it becomes less and less feasible.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture of Granville Ferry across the Annapolis River - when the spring comes you must take some exploratory drives up over the North Mountain and see the little Fundy fishing villages which are a world apart from the valley.
Pop over and enter my draw at quiltingwithjanet.blogspot.com - it runs until Chrisytmas Eve.
Hugs and lots of warm good wishes.

Hi Kaaren,
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great already. Are you sleeping much. You have accomplished so much in so little time. We have a wood stove in our kitchen/family room and we enjoy it so much too. I was wondering how the weather was for you. The East coast seem to be getting some bad weather at times, but it looks like you are protected where you are. We in southern Ontario have had lots of snow in some areas, but today the sun is shining and there is no wind. It certainly makes a difference. Good to hear your progress. Take care.
Dianne
You definitely have made progress! Things are looking really cozy and lived in. Have fun doing your studio.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful and already so very cozy and nice. Don't work to hard.
ReplyDeleteHello Kaaren, You have every thing coming together very nice. It wont be any time till every thing is where you want it. remember one room at a time. I could use that little stove myself.
ReplyDeleteOh how pretty! Cheri
ReplyDeleteOh, it looks like fun to me! I love adventures and you're having agood one! Your furniture fits the period of the house so well :) The finishing touches will truly make it feel like "home"!
ReplyDeleteIt's really looking like home!
ReplyDeleteIt is looking beautiful Kaaren! At least you are in before the holidays!
ReplyDeleteEverything seems to be coming along! Finding just the right place for things is not always easy. It will be fun to start on your quilt room!
ReplyDeleteHi Kaaren!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks absolutely wonderful!! I wish I could click with my mouse and move plates off the pennies for a better look! :o) So cozy and comfy!! A gorgeous home for sure!!
Paulette
We just moved and are repainting and remodeling everything. Constant chaos. I can totally relate to you.
ReplyDeleteEverything is looking great. Just wondering; why did you choose the location that you did?
ReplyDeleteLOL, I so know how you are feeling my friend those flipping boxes seems to have identities all of their own don't they. Each one materialising as if by magic. As for the gross shade, mmmm, gross in size and style but hey as long as you don't look up or look at the walls, well...
ReplyDeleteJust remember to keep on taking some time out, as you ssaid - you are retired so there is no urgency to it all. Take care
hugs
Miche'le
Your house looks wonderful with all of your things in it, the furniture really fits so well in your new place. Love those braided rugs.
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Wow! You've really gotten a lot done. Everything is shaping up nicely. You're wise to take it slow. But it looks like you're going pretty fast to me!

ReplyDeleteYour furniture is a perfect fit for the style of this house! That oil stove in the kitchen is just icing on the cake! I'm sure every box that you open makes it feel more and more like home. What an adventure you've undertaken!
ReplyDeleteEven though it may look "unsetteled" to you, it looks lovely to those of us peeking into your rooms. Thanks for sharing the photos and giving us a peek at your cozy space. I would love to come and sit in your kitchen and have a lovely chat. :-)
ReplyDeleteYour new home is looking wonderful and cozy. You'll be done soon!
ReplyDeleteOh, you've done a wonderful job. Everything looks so warm and inviting!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kaaren, nice that you've arrived. The tour of your new house was wonderful. In the strong, silent type, and this I wish you. Very very greetings from snowy Germany, your Christine. A joyful Christmas season.

ReplyDeleteLovely view of the waterway. Glad you had some time to drive around, and do some sight seeing.
Elzaan
You are definitely making progress! The scenery pictures are great too!
ReplyDelete~Linnea
I am AMAZED at how much you've gotten done - and having serious stove envy, lol! Just take it one step at a time and you'll get there before you know it. Now that the kitchen is almost done, I think you should work on the studio - the most important room, right? Tomorrow I'll be helping my best friend pack up her studio, she's moving *sob* - only 20 minutes away, but it was lovely having her right down the street. No more running over there in my pajamas.
ReplyDeleteHI Kaaren, Pleased to see you have arrived safe and sound and are making great progress with all the unpacking. Your house is definately starting to look like your home now.
ReplyDeleteOhh my, you have been busy!!!
ReplyDeleteLove those ocean photographs.
Have fun in your studio!
Sounds like things are falling in place even if you will have to move them to paint. Love the pictures. Take you time and enjoy life.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your style!!!! Can't wait to see a few scattered hooked rugs, here and there, as well! *VBG*
ReplyDeleteBTW, if you're ever looking for a Long Arm Quilter, we're in Saint John and hubby is the creative quilter with our Gammill - we could surely return your quilted quilt by our trusty bus, if you're interested. *VBG*

Your home already looks very nice, even if you have not finished painting. You have to do it step by step, take time to live! And for you I think that means you have to get your quilting room to be one of the first rooms next! I loved your quilt cupboard!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful home and it is certainly becoming your own. Looks like your cabinet in the Dining room JUST fit. I have one that is just about that tall and that far from the ceiling also, not much room for dusting up there. lol Thank you for sharing your home with all of us. You are a true inspiration.
ReplyDeleteBe always in stitches

Thank you, Kaaren, for a little "piece" of yourself. I feel so comfy as I stroll through your home - like I know you first-hand.
ReplyDeleteYou are so sweet to take time out of your busy schedule to share with your followers who love you so much.
Cozy up to that stove and sit a spell - don't forget to allow yourself, and hubby, time to rest.
Happy Holiday season to a dear, dear person.
Have to chuckle at the "gross light fitting" I think I have removed them all from sight, but it looks very much like capice shell ones that I brought back to Australia from the Philippines in the mid '70's and used when I originally moved in here in '80. They were however a little more attractive than that version.....LOL
