We decided to leave yesterday to return to Ontario because there’s still so much that we have to do here before the movers arrive on the 29th to load. Even though ‘most’ of the packing has been done, there’s still a lot more to do. We are sending a lot of the things that we’ve decided not to move to auction and all that stuff will be picked up on Tuesday evening. Once that stuff is out of here we’ll have a bit more room to manoeuvre in order to be able to get to the things that still need to be packed…things that had been inaccessible due to the walls of boxes.
Today is going to be a catching up kind of day, along with some much needed rest.
We left Nova Scotia yesterday morning at around 9 a.m. and arrived at our house in Ontario at 1:00 a.m. this morning.
No sooner did we cross over from Nova Scotia into New Brunswick, the skies opened up. Snow, snow and more snow. At least the snow plows were out in New Brunswick but in Quebec, we saw not a single one. There were times when we had to slow down to 20 mph because the lines weren’t visible on the roads. Several times we were tempted to pull over and check into a motel but Mr. PQ was driving and he wanted to make it home. We drove approximately 10 hours in a snow storm and sometimes the visibility was no more than 20 yards ahead of us. We did manage to drive out of it once we started heading in a westerly direction, about 10 miles past Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec, about 400 miles from home. Our bed never looked so good!
I only have a couple of photos to show you of our ‘new’ place in Nova Scotia, taken moments after signing the papers and taking possession last Monday. The battery in my camera died and I inadvertently forgot to pack the charger.
This first one is the view of the ocean from our front yard looking in a north westerly direction.
This next one is from the same spot looking down the road in a south westerly direction. You can barely make out the ocean in the background through the trees.
This last photo is taken from the same spot looking towards the back of our property and the rear side of the house. The white outbuilding is where Mr. PQ will be spending a lot of his leisure time doing things that men love to do…playing with their ‘toys’. The red building in the distance is a barn with stalls. Evidently horses were kept here at some point. You just never know what might take up residence there in the future. *wink*
I had hoped to take some ‘before’ interior pictures but by this time the camera died. Hopefully I’ll have better luck when we return next week as we start to document this chapter in our lives. It is our intention to get lots of painting done before our furniture arrives sometime during the following week.
Please allow me to take this opportunity to thank you all for your comments and words of encouragement. Trust me, they do mean a lot to me. As you know I usually try to answer all of your comments but at the moment, I just haven’t had the time. I want you all to know that you are truly helping me get through this ordeal..one box at a time.
Thanks for being there and as always…
Happy stitching!
Kaaren ♥
Said it before, say it again. I am so jealous, envious, whatever word you want to choose. But also cheering you both on with everything I have. PS. When's the open house?
ReplyDeleteWe're going through the same thing here in Wisconsin. We're closing on the 30th, painting, then moving in on the 9th. Like you, it's wall to wall boxes around here. Here's to hoping your move goes smoothly and you're settled in in no time.
ReplyDeleteYou, Mr PQ and Mack will be starting your new chapter very very soon. This week will FLY by.

ReplyDeleteI found myself getting excited looking at the photos of your new home! It looks terrific--would love to live where I could see the ocean. The snow doesn't sound fun though--we've driven through snow like that--definitely not a good experience! Hope your move goes well and the painting is easy!
ReplyDeleteI share these photos with my husband...wait until he sees the outbuildings! What a dream home! Can't wait to see what you do inside.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely views you have Kaaren, glad you and Mr. P made it through the snow without any misadventures.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the auction, can't wait to see pictures of the new home as you decorate it and make it all yours. Hope Mac is enjoying the adventure.
Woah what a great place to live. Good luck with the move and unpacking
ReplyDeleteOh, Kaaren, I am so excited for you!! Your time is getting short. Your property looks beautiful. Can't wait to see more (maybe I'll even get to see it in person some day!) Good luck with the last of your planning! ~karen
ReplyDeleteNova Scotia - I took a 2 week vacation there with my parents about 20 years ago and loved it. Best wishes on your new home. I hope your drive back is not as snowy as this one. Best wishes, Kathie L in Allentown
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing those wonderful photos of the views around your new home.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the rest of the packing.
Travel safely, especially on the snowy roads.
I love your views, it looks like a wonderful place to live and a nice community. That red barn will make a nice studio with an apartment for visitors;)
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Good to hear from you and that you arrived safely home. Only one more long trip and then you will be in your new home.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are just great. The views are beautiful. Looking forward to your updates as you settle in.
We moved to our home in the country over six years ago and still enjoy all that it offers, even the snow in winter. My husband is not so in love with it but we do have the right equipment to handle it (tractor with cab and snowblower) and as he collects old tractors, he does enjoy driving them. My neighbour and I use being snowed in as great excuses for quilting. I even have a treadle machine for when the hydro is off, but guess what, since I got it, the power has not been off very often. A lot of our neighbours are Amish, including a large quilt shop on the next farm, and along with the fresh eggs, and produce (in the summer) I spend quite a lot of time visiting with them. Hope you are as lucky as me to have a quilt shop near.
Wow Kaaren, what I have seen looks delightful. Can't wait to see more. Sorry your drive must have been nailbiting. I hate driving in bad weather.
ReplyDeleteGlad you made it home safely. Does Mac like snow?
ReplyDeleteThe snow is still here although it has stopped now. I live 1.5 hours north of Fredericton, New Brunswick, very close to the TCH.
We(3 quilting girls)fortunately missed out on the first storm of the season, we were over to Keepsake Quilting in Center Harbor, New Hampshire.
That is a great weekend trip you will want to try out when spring finally arrives!
Good luck with the rest of your move, looking forward to hearing about the first retreat that you host in the big barn!!
So happy to hear that you arrived safely! Driving in the winter and snow can be so hazardous and hard on the nerves. It's snowing here right now so I feel your pain a little bit! Good luck with the upcoming auction. I hope you make lots of cash to make your dreams come true in your new home!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you made it "home" safely. I remember our trip here (Ottawa) from Calgary just a short year and a half ago. At the end of April and guess what??? Snow, cold temps all the way. And it took us 5 days in the rv, towing our car with Annie-girl riding up front as co-pilot!!! The new place looks wonderful - I can hardly wait to hear of all your plans and adventures. Try and take it easy - I know it's easier said than done. Once you are settled in, it will all be worth it. Lori R.
ReplyDeleteLooks like abeautiful area. I just know you will be happy there. Those out buildings look VERY interesting. Have a good, productive... but... restful week.. although I know you will be busy. Excited for you!
ReplyDeleteIt won't be long now - you're almost there. So glad you made it home safe, I don't like driving in snowstorms! And sweetie, don't even THINK about answering any comments until you're moved in and settled - no blog stress, ok? You have enough to deal with.
ReplyDeleteOooooh Karen, the post to you in all this bustle still find time! I admire you very much praise and continue all the best. Only a short time and soon everything is in balance. I am with you in mind. Many greetings from Germany.

Oh you are right by the ocean! I"m falling in love more and more every day with your new home!
ReplyDeleteYour new home has the most gorgeous views imaginable!! Just think, in another few days you'll be through with all the packing and starting on the journey of unpacking and making your new home just what you want it to be!
ReplyDeleteHope your drive back is much easier than your drive to Ontario!
I know it's all very exciting and exhausting. Perhaps a Fairy Godmother is available to help with a twitch of the wand?
ReplyDeleteYour new place looks great - I thought it was Bear River, but you look to be overlooking the Annapolis Basin around Clementsport or Cornwallis - beautiful property, well-maintained from the looks of it. Glad you made it safely through that storm - we had a much smaller one late Saturday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteBe safe - it will soon be done and dusted!
Good luck with the move Kaaren. Christmas in your new home. Have patience, you will get there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, beautiful place! I can see creative juices flowing freely that for Mrs. AND Mr. Painted Quilt!
ReplyDeleteYour new place looks gorgeous!!!! I am jealous - no need to hide it. I am very happy for you all. Bet Mac will enjoy his new playgroud and Mr. PQ and yourself your new "hobby rooms". Holding thumbs that the last stretch will go smoothly.

Kaaren,
ReplyDeletewhat a marvelous view. Your new home looks so inviting. I know you are anxious to get there permanently. I would, in fact, it looks like some place I'd love to visit!
Can't wait to see the inside of your new home!

What marvelous views you have from your yard!! Can't wait to see pictures as you progress through this adventure....glad you returned home safe!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful...I LOVE extra buildings on the property! Hmmm, what can be done with a nice Red Barn by a crafty couple of people? Happy moving day!

ReplyDeleteSo happy that you arrived safely, and I do love your new home and the beautiful scenery you showed us. Much happiness Kaaren in your new home!
ReplyDeleteMicki
Kaaren this is so beautiful, so envious of you and the adventure that lays ahead for you and your husband. Looks just wonderful, again be safe in your travels!
ReplyDeleteSandy
Oh my Kaaren, the property views are so beautiful and soothing. You are going to love it there. As for the snow storm you were driving in...it is headed our way. We have blizzard warnings state wide with expectations of over 15" of snow in the valleys (that's me) by tomorrow night. There is currently no snow as what there was melted of yesterday. But...it makes for perfect quilting weather...though not so great for moving. Please be so very careful in your travels, I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Now...about that barn...hehehe, what could a lady of your talents possibly be thinking of putting in a 'barn'? *big smiles* Hugs...
ReplyDeleteVery, very happy for you, Kaaren ! Your new home seems so delightful... And what a view ! Oh yes, I love this place !
ReplyDeleteI wish you a lot of happiness here.
Hugs from France,
Sylvie
I know you will enjoy your new home Kaaren. Just seeing some of these pictures is so exciting! Can't wait to see the inside and what you will do to make it your own.
ReplyDeleteKaaren, it looks just heavenly. You and the Mr. take care and enjoy the new chapter in your lives. I can relate to that drive from living in Alaska for years. Looking forward to seeing more photo's. Will you have milder temperatures living on the coast?
ReplyDeleteHi Kaaren! Wow...I move and come back and what happens??? When did this happen that you found a house? It is not the one we talked about before is it?
ReplyDeleteOkay now about that snow...I am green with envy...lol. Not the driving in it part though. :-) It is supposed to snow here but now they say it will hang over the North Sea so we will not see it after all. *sigh* We are off to a Christmas market in Germany tomorrow though so I guess it is good that it is not snowing.
Hugs from Holland ~
Heidi
Your new neighborhood looks like it's full of even more quaint houses, Kaaren! The views are to die for. If Sam gets that great big shop out back, what do you get (wink)? Hang in there, it won't be long now! We are already talking about a trip beginning in N.S. then driving south along the Eastern Seaboard to Bob's hometown in NJ! Perhaps we'll see you sometime in the next year or two!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
It looks so gorgeous there!!
ReplyDeleteMoving is such a big job hey but just think of the end result!!
Take care, dear Kaaren...I have so enjoyed catching a glimpse of your new home!
ReplyDeleteOoooh, how exciting!! I am so happy for you, while I don't envy you this coming weekend as the final stuff is put in boxes. Best of luck with that! I loved the pics--can't wait to see more when you can manage it. Take care of yourself and hang in there!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures and what a wonderful view of the Ocean!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing more pictures and stories regarding your new lovely home and fun adventures for you to discover!
Carolyn :)
