A ‘Fob’ulous Day!

When I woke up yesterday morning,  dawn was just starting to break and a light rain was falling.  After plugging in the coffee pot, I then opened the patio doors leading to the backyard to let Mac, our Westie out.  I don’t usually follow him out until after the coffee is ready, but for some reason, I did.  I happened to look over to the birdhouse where we have house wrens as guests.  They checked in about three weeks ago to set and stay for a while.  Two days ago, I heard some feeble ‘peeping’ coming from the house, so I knew that their young-uns had hatched.

To my utter dismay, I saw that there was a gaping hole in the second house next to where they had made their nest.  The front of the house was missing!

SAM_0440

I presume that during the night, the cat that I had shooed away earlier in the evening had jumped from the top of the fence where I had seen him, onto the birdhouse and somehow the face plate became dislodged.  I found the piece on the grass just in front of the pole.

SAM_0442

Thank goodness momma, poppa and babies appear to be okay because their nest is in the adjacent house to the left.  Many sorties were made by both parents during the day to collect food to bring back to the nest…and no sign of the dreaded cat.  Everything seems to be okay this morning as well.sunflrdivx

I don’t know whether the bird/cat incident threw me off or perhaps it was the dreary day but I just was not in a sewing frame of mind.  I can’t sit around doing nothing for very long when I got this this ‘fob’ulous idea!

I haven’t made any scissor fobs since last Christmas and after having a ‘fob’ulous time playing with my beads and charms for a couple of hours, here are the fruits of my toil!

SAM_0456

Would you like one?  If so, just leave me a comment and I’ll let the random number generator do it’s thing and pick three winners on Thursday, June 17th.  If you come up as ‘no reply’ meaning that I can’t reach you by email, then your name will passed over and we’ll spin the wheel again.  I will gladly post internationally.  And if you spot one that’s your favorite, mention that as well and I’ll do my best to accommodate.

Scissors need their own ‘fob’ulous jewelry…don’t you think?

sunflrdivx

After having a ‘fob’ulous time making fobs, I also set aside some time to prepare and cut out the pieces for the Between Charming Friends Quilt Along.

6a011168a24766970c013482c78103970c-320wi

Darlene from Quilting Daze designed this “Between Friends” quilt and Kelly from Cotton Charm Quilts is hosting the quilt along.  It’s still not too late to join in.

6a011168a24766970c0133ef9bf615970b-500wi

I am using ‘Dandelion Girl’ by Fig Tree Quilts not only because I had two charm packs in my stash but because I ♥ these fabrics as well.

SAM_0452

This Friday we begin week 2 of the quilt along.  Another Christmas present in the works perhaps?

sunflrdivx

Have a ‘fob’ulous day and as always…

Happy stitching!

Kaaren ♥

Yes scissors need pretties too. I would be thrilled to win one of them. I really like the one that is second from the right in the bottom row but any of them would please me.

I'm glad you followed Mac to the bird house! Love your special doll and the music I listen too on your blog. So very cheery. Please enter me in the scissor fob drawing too. Thanks!

What a great idea for a give-away! I love them all - but if I had to pick a favorite, I think I like the yellow one with the large heart charm the best - gotta love lampwork beads! Thank you for offering these :)

I love your word 'fobulous'- it makes me giggle! I like your fobulous fobs too- even one with a bird! Where did you get the little charms at the ends? I've not seen those sort of things here at all. I'd sure love to win one- but I'd probably giggle too much to ever attach it to the scissors!

I'd have been upset at the state of the birdhouse too, so not at all surprised you were- there's Nature and then there's 'a fighting chance'.

Oh...that cat is such a stinker! I do enjoy when the kitties come visit but boy do I get on them for hassling my hummers.
Oh look...all your pieces cut out and to the RIGHT size. Hee!!
Of course I'd absolutely love to win a scissor fob and they are all so darned GOOD that picking one would be hard. Do you sell them?

Melinda said...

Great scissor fobs, I would love to win one. If I had to choose, I would pick the red one but would be happy with any of them.

I've always liked beads and charms, but determined not to allow myself to get into them... yet another thing to begin spending hard-earned money on! So, thanks very much for offering us this chance to win a pretty fob. My favorite is the red beaded one with the sandal. It's how I like to imagine myself, even if I don't measure up - bright and carefree.

Anna said...

If the cat continues to be a problem you can cover your post with stovepipe so the cat can't climb it. Love your fobs!

Down time and you creat pretties and I created a mess. When you rearranged your sewing space.....I knew that it was past time for my to get busy and sort, clean and rearrange my space. Well......I am not sure at this point if I will ever be able to create again. This isn't near as much fun as the day you had. So glad that momma and daddy are ok and taking good care of the little ones. Our neighborhood terror ( a BIG gray cat ) finally got caught in the cat trap that my neighbor set out in his backyard...well time to face that mess I have. You have a great day!!

Cute! I would love a chance to win. I like the one with the button the best. Your quilt is going to be so nice with Dandelion Girl fabric.

Those are so pretty. Thanks for the chance to win one of these. I'd personally go with any of them, but the Breast-Cancer awareness has a lead for me. :)

I would love to see you do a tute on how to make these...I would love to make my own, but just don't know how to tie off ends to make them look professional. I like the gold one top row or the aqua one bottom row.
I was thinking of doing that qal as well, but I think I'm over booked as it is...but I sure like that little quiltlette! If I have doubles on a charm pack, I may just jump in anyway!

Glad the birdies are ok :)
I love your scissor fobs, they're all really cute...I'd love to win one, but if I don't, can you show us how you made them with a tutorial?...is that tooooo cheeky?? ;))

I love all your scissor fobs and would love to be entered. I have a million pairs of scissors (okay, maybe not that many - LOL), but never make fobs!

And saw that quilt and have thought about joining in. I'll have to see what I have fabric-wise to work with!

the fobs are wonderful and would be great for retreats and sew-ins with my bee. the red one is great as well as the brown one next to it--but all are fantastic. understand the situation with the baby birds. we are on our third set of baby Eastern bluebirds and we always fear something will happen before they can fly. birding is such a fun part of our day.
