Another Busy Weekend!

Gee, maybe we should make each weekend last for 7 days because that’s when I seem to be most productive!

First thing on Saturday morning’s agenda was to reorganize my studio because I was having problems with my laptop being situated too close to the modem which was transmitting a very strong wireless signal causing my computer to freeze when web browsing.  Because there is only one telephone jack in the room, the modem had to stay where it was.  I ended up moving my desk to where my sewing station used to be and now things are just tickety-poo!

Then I shifted my sewing table over to where the desk used to reside.

Another angle…

Did you notice my scissor collection on the treadle machine in the background.  It’s grown somewhat.  *wink*  And that’s not all of them either!

Here’s one of my stash cupboards where I ‘shop’ for fabric.

And two others…

And my Featherweight station where I made my nine patch minis not too long ago with bins of wool  and fabric stored beneath it.

The first thing I did after the rearranging was to cut and prepare the fabric for Kathy’s Irish Chain challenge which I spoke about here in the last paragraph.  I decided upon a turkey red and a white tone-on-tone.

I then made up 20 new siggy blocks for the international siggy swap that I belong to because I had completely run out of them.  I received three last week and I needed some to send out in return.

On Saturday afternoon I completed stitching my July FFF while watching the Montreal/Philly hockey game.  Sorry but you’ll have to wait til the First Friday in July to see it,  *wink*

I started to piece the mini Irish Chain quilt on Saturday night but fatigue set in so I set it aside for a fresh start on Sunday.  When I turned in on Saturday night, I started to read the 11th book in the Elm Creek series called The New Year’s Quilt

Yesterday, I completed the top to the Irish Chain challenge.

Do you think I should add a small border or just leave it as is?

Today is a holiday in Canada.  Mr. Painted Quilt took me out for a wonderful breakfast and the rest of the day is mine to do with as I please.

Happy stitching!

Kaaren ♥

  1. Beautiful room - love it! I've made a big decision - yes, I have - I'm going to start tossing all my change in a jar. Why? So, I can save for a plane ticket to visit you - I want to play in your room with you. teehee!!! How long can I stay? LOL

Love the mini Irish Chain - I think no border and just bind in the same red.

  5. I think I would like to see some sort of red/white/pink calico print as a border to your Irish chain quilt. (Also, I am a big fan of the Elm Creek Quilt series books)!

  6. Did you enjoy the book? I just downloaded the Aloha Quilt and am not thrilled so far. Usually, I enjoy listening to the Elm Creek book series.

  7. Your sewing room is lovely, my adding those lovely displays in my sewing room would be a waste. I would make one project and they would all be covered with scraps from what I was working on. LOL I love the little quilt you just finished and the challenge quilt Irish Chain. I still have not started mine.

Wow, what a sewing room you have!
How I'd love to shop in your stash cupboards! lol
I'd like to see a close up picture of your scissor collection.

  13. You truly were very busy! The sewing room looks great: very productive and nice area to work in. I would put a small red border on the Irish chain...although red binding may do the trick also. Lynne

  15. Your mini Irish chain is so clean and simple looking that all you need is a narrow red binding to set it off. You would loose the simplicity of it if you put any borders on. Lets your quilting in the open areas shine.

  16. Your room looks wonderful and looks like it has a lot of wonderful space!! I think that I would bind the quilt in red and call it a day. Will keep the quilt simple but beautiful.

  19. I'm totally in love with your sewing room! And of course the mini-Irish Chain - is there a better color than turkey red??? I would leave it with no border, just bind it in red. DARLING.
Did you finish the book yet? Loved that one! Love your readers too, so cute!

  21. I LOVE your Hoosier cabinet!!!
I have a weakness for scissors also. I have not read this new book, will have to check it out. I love the quilt as is, but I am a sucker for borders so don't ask me! LOL I'd put some floral border and mess the whole thing up! I think it looks great like it is! :)

  23. What a great walk around your sewing studio, Kaaren! Looks like you have everything suited exactly to your needs! I've had trouble with my wireless, too - we don't have a modem, but I stil wonder if that's the issue - perhaps some rearranging here as well!
Love the Irish Chain - I think you could go either way -borderless or with!
    Cheers!
