Bright and early last Saturday morning, Mr. Painted Quilt and I left on a road trip to Shelburne, Vermont. The fall foliage was past but the day was destined to be full of color, nonetheless. The purpose of our trip was to attend the Hooked in the Mountains XIV show, sponsored by the Green Mountain Rug Hooking Guild.
Because we were in no rush, we took our time to get there. Vermont is a beautiful state and the green mountains in and around Burlington and Shelburne are simply breathtaking.
As we made our way along Interstate 89, I had to take a picture of the mountains in the distance. The peaks were snow-covered, even at this time of year.
A short while later, we arrived at our destination…the Shelburne Museum.
The rug hooking show was held inside the museum which is pictured above.
The building is very deceiving from the outside because it is actually on three levels. On the first two levels, over 200 hooked rugs were displayed.
All of the rugs were amazing. I could see myself falling in love with this art form very easily, but quickly talked myself out of it.
I just had to take a photo of the Westie because he looks so much like our Mac.After admiring all the hooked rugs on the first two floors, I made my way to the lower level and found myself in WOOL HEAVEN! There were approximately 20 vendors…all selling WOOL! Wool in every color imaginable…and then some!
Be still my ♥ !
My ♥ started to palpitate and I didn’t know where to start. After giving myself a shake, I managed to collect my thoughts and settled down to do some serious shopping.
And…
I think my wool addiction has been satisfied… until next year’s show at least. Now I can tackle all those projects on my ‘to do’ list that require copious amounts of wool. Woo hoo!
And no shopping trip would be complete without a visit to one of the LQS for more turkey red and cheddar fabric…right?
I’m in heaven…WOOL heaven.
Happy stitching!
Kaaren ♥

Beautiful wools! I would love to do rug hooking with the wool strips. It just isn't in the budget to do more hobbies than I already do. I do have a rug punching project started with wool yarn. Haven't picked it up to work on in two years now.
It certainly looks like wool heaven!!! I love hooked rugs too and it looks like a great showing of them at the museum. I'm so happy you posted them on your blog.
Wool Heaven!!! I want to go there too. Love the plaids you purchased.

The rugs are stunning! What a beautiful show. They don't have anything like that out here. Your wool pieces are lovely. I can almost imagine how wonderful they feel in your hands while working with them.
Hi Kaaren, Ah, heaven, yes! Lovely purchases you made. Did you ever look at the Wool in the Willows pattern? The pattern with sheep that you were interested in seeing. Let me know. I will get more info. to you if you didn't find it. Glad you had a beautiful road trip. Great for the spirit. Have a great day! Karen

I wish I could have been with you Kaaren!! I would love to be able to shop somewhere with such a selection of wool!
That looks like a GREAT trip - I've had to talk myself out of trying rug hooking too, I love it but I'm so limited on time and space!

Sounds like a fabulous trip. I have always wanted to go there but not easy to get there living in Iowa....where no one seems to know where it is. Thanks for the trip via pictures and blogs. Maybe I will make it one day.
I also love your reference to 'Mr. Painted Quilt". I chuckle everytime I read it.

OH, I am jealous. I wish I was in wool heaven along with you. lol
Beautiful choices and I love the displays. I want to try rug hooking with wool some day.
Love those hook rugs, but I surely don't need another hobby. Oh, that's Wool LOVE, I've been collecting a little and someday I'll get around to dying it and making something. Can't wait to see your next wool project.
Great stash... Kaaren. You know if your tried to rug hook you would get hooked. Oh I miss my quilt studio. Another few weeks to go....
What a lovely trip, I'm oohing and Aahing over the rugs. You have some lovely purchases thee.
It's hard to narrow down what to buy when faced with so much! I'll be the rugs were amazing to see in person. I've wanted to go to Vermont for so many years...hopefully one of these years soon.
The rug hooking is really neat. I would like to try it sometime. In fact I even have pics of projects. A few years back I worked with a woman who did amazing rug hooking (she's now retired).
After my shopping experience last night I'm a little jealous. 20 vendors, wow! I bought my first wool pieces for a project, but they were out of creamy white. Meanwhile I'm sure I can find ~something~ else to work on. (wink)
The Shelburne - haven't been there in years! What a lovely place for the guild and all that eye candy!! And the stash you took home - more eye candy. I know you will find just the right projects for all those goodies!!
Have a wonderful weekend!
The wools were just beautiful and thanks for sharing all the wonderful pics!
Micki
What a fun trip! It would be so nice to live that close to Vermont. I cannot believe how nice those wool rugs are. Do you make wool rugs yourself alot? I don't remember seeing them on your blog but I do know you quilt with wool and it is beautiful.
Hugs ~
Heidi
