I just heard from my gynecologist and have a little news to share with you all. The preliminary results from the pap smear came back as ‘abnormal’ and the gynecological oncologist who interpreted the results has requested that a second and more extensive biopsy be done in order to determine if this is indeed the primary source of the cancer. So I am scheduled for a second bout of surgery on the 20th of July and at the same time, a urologist will perform a biopsy of my bladder…
Two proceedures for the price of one!
I have mixed feelings about the findings but am optimistic that if this is indeed the source, then let’s get busy and get on with it! I have so many things to do, people to see and places to go, quilts to be made, rugs to be hooked and new designs to share with you all…and…on Saturday…
The girls are arriving!
Three Rhode Island Red laying hens are being given to us by a friend so Mr. Painted Quilt and I have been busy preparing the ‘coop’ area of the barn in anticipation of their arrival.
There’s the barn in the distance with the rose garden in the foreground. We started to lay the black cedar mulch to try to keep the weeds down and the moisture in but as you can see, it’s not quite finished. Hopefully we’ll be able to strike that little job from our ‘to do’ list tomorrow.
This will be the girls’ new residence.
Mr. PQ installed three ‘roosting’ stations, two that you see above…
and this one in order that they have the option of choosing which of the three they like the best. Mr. PQ also laid some plywood over the pine plank flooring to make it easier to clean out the soiled wood chips when necessary. The carpeting…I mean the fresh wood chips…will be laid in the next day or so to cover the entire floor…as well as in…
The nesting boxes pictured above.
Perhaps as soon as next week we will be collecting and eating our own fresh brown eggs!
I still have to make some curtains for the window and install the television. After all, I think the girls like their afternoon soaps. *wink*
And lastly, thank you all again for caring. You have no idea how much you all mean to me.
As soon as we collect enough eggs, you’re all invited for breakfast!

You know it's all going to be OK, it has to be. I mean, heck there are too many of us sending up good wishes and prayers for you, how could they be ignored??
Have one, get one free - hah, sounds like a good marketing plan that procedure of yours.
Yummo, golden orbes floating in snow white clouds perfect with crispy toast - mmmm, must be breakfast time here.
YOu take care, Mr PQ too and thanks for the update.

Can't beat two for the price of one! WIth your great attitude, you'll be fine through all this. I'm glad you had moved and found a lifestyle that makes you so happy. Hugs and prayers.
Kaaren my thoughts are with you now and on the 20th !

Oh I like a good BOGOF (buy one get one free) it sounds like they are taking good care of you. That's another good thing about living here in France, the health service is brilliant. Wish I was near enough for breakfast fresh eggs taste so good. Hugs Linda
Well I know that stuff is no fun, but I am glad it wasn't all of the things I kept thinking it was. This happened to my daughter after her son was a bout two years old we went through the whole thing thinking the worst then all of it went away.
They still watch her close but nothing else has happened.
I am glad you feel good and so glad you get your girls soon.
Hugs,
Kim
See you at breakfast Kaaren!
I send you all my best wishes from France.
For your breakfast , sorry but I 'm a little bit too fare away.
Hugs
Ahhh fresh eggs..... Well, the girls are getting a good home.
I will be with you in spirit while your tests are being done.....
I am continuing to keep you in my prayers and thoughts everyday...
Looks like your gals will have top accomodations - bet you're looking forward to those eggs! Good thoughts going out to you!All the best on the 20th.
My family has had two very scary cancer diagnoses - husband and nephew. Fortunately, both diagnoses were just plain wrong! Neither one had cancer, it only looked that way until further investigation ruled it out. So, I hope your diagnosis turns out to be a sheep in wolf's clothing. I pray for you every day. Thanks for the update.
I will fly up there for that breakfast and to celebrate your recovery after the two for one surgery! We are all thinking about you!!
I am sending my good thoughts and prayers for you during this time... positive attitude is everything and you seem to have a very positive one. take care
Sabrina
Would love to have some eggs with ya:) Hope your surgery goes WELL and your health returns to tip top shape.
Oh my Kaaren I have not been in blogging land for a while. I was so stunned to read your trouble with your health. I will say some prayers for you that it can be dealt with in a timely fashion and you can get back to what you love to do. Love those hens too cute. Big hugs Bunny
Still praying for you daily dear Kaaren! Thank you for the update. Enjoy those eggs!

You certainly are getting on with it....and girls are a great way to go. Love the barn.....looks like a barn but very neat and tidy..... are the girls going "outside" or are they indoor girls?
Hang in there, we are still pulling for you.

T.V. In the hen house! I might be wanting to move in there !!
Breakfast sounds good....I like mine over easy!
Take care ..we are all thinking of you.
First lemonade and now an offering of breakfast. Sounds like you are feeling positive about what is going on.
I'm glad they can combine the two surgeries at the same time.
Healing thoughts continue to head your way.
Can's wait to see what is new in your creativity circle.
All the best to Mac and Mr. PQ.
love and all that mushy stuff,
Sandi
The waiting is the hardest part of all of this, I am sure. Hopefully you can keep busy in the next 2 weeks...seems like you are. Fresh eggs sounds wonderful...wouldn't it be fun if we all could get together? Prayers for you, Kaaren and stay strong.
How exciting! The girls are going to love living in their fancy digs.
Keeping you in my prayers.
Kaaren,
I'm so glad you're receiving prompt care and treatment. I have good thoughts for you daily.
If you give the girls some itty bitty knitting needles and yarn they can whip up some sweaters for themselves for the Canadian winter! Gotta teach them to multitask :-)
Thinking good thoughts of you. Oh goodness...do the girls have names yet? Fresh eggs for breakfast...YUM. I hear chicken poop makes some of the best fertilizer!
Being positive helps more with the healing process than anything. Good thoughts and best wishes. Chris
Chickens, yeah! My house had a coop and I thought I would get some asap, but realized that was one too many chores for me. I love collecting the eggs at my friends farm, and then eating them! Glad you are continuing on with all your plans and ideas. Us quilters need to live to 184 to get through all our projects! Take care and big hugs.
Hi Kaaren
It's so good to hear from you and what is happening with you. I'm always thinking of you and am glad that you are busy waiting for the arrival of the girls, not just other news. The barn looks in great shape and I think they will be very happy there. Fresh eggs are always the best.
My prayers and thought are with you for the 20th.
Enjoy the girls and the garden until then.
Dianne
Oh Kaaren how exciting that you're getting some gawjus 'girls' to come and live with you. We used to have chooks too (that's what we call them here in Oz) and I just LOVED those yummy fresh eggs every day. Yours will be living a life of luxury too by the look of it ;o).

Joy :o) xxxx
At times we get to thinking, why me? I truely believe that with positive thinking, positive attitudes, and positive people everything will come out with a positive fullfillment. Best Wishes to you Kaaren, to Mr. PQ and to all of your new "coop"dwellers.
Be always in positive stitches.
Keeping you in my prayers and sending you positive thoughts. Hope you know soon so you can begin the therapy and healing process.
Hugs,\Patty
I, too, am hoping that this is the source and the treatments can begin. I am sure the surgeries will not be too comfortable, but it will be nice to have them behind you. I will be keeping you in my prayers in an extra special way on the 20th.
I love the coop!!!! Those girls are really going to have it made. Did you pipe music in too? I am looking forward to seeing that first omelet!
Oh, yay, chickens! Chickens are wonderful therapy, in my opinion. And they are such cheerful, industrious creatures, you can't help but feel better just seeing them around. The eggs help, too!
Kaaren, I'm hoping the next test will give you good information to get going with the treatment. Yes, you have many things to do like collect eggs for breakfast. Have fun with your new chickens and please keep us updated.
TV and curtains for the girls sounds lovely but I would guess their "bucket list" might include a hot tub for their hen parties!!
Prayers, best wishes and healing vibes heading your way, Phyllis
May everything go splendidly for you.
Sounds like you are in good hands. I am keeping you in my prayers. The girls quarters are wonderful!! Thanks for updating us and take good care of yourself.
Hoping the next procedure will give your dr. the answer necessary to begin your path to recovery, Kaaren. You're in my prayers. Hugs, Alice I.
GOD BLESS next you'll show us the Quilt the hens needed for the night chill!lol

I think your renters are going to feel right at home, lets hope they repay you with lots of eggs.
Well at least your getting the bargain procedures done. Nothing like being economical lol.
Thinking of you and wishing you the best.
Welcome to the girls- nothing beats eggs laid by home kept hens. They will be the happiest hens around at the PQ Hilton, I wouldn't mind moving in there once the tv gets put in.
Big hugs.
Hi Kaaren, I had added you to my prayer list. YOur in good company. You will get through this and all your blogger friends are sending good wishes. Love the chicken coop boy what lucky chickens.Hugs Cheri

Positive attitude is the key!! You are in my thoughts every day. Hugs and prayers.
You are in the right place with a gynecologist oncologist- I am glad you went to a specialist. I work for a gynecologist and when things are out of her realm she never hesitates to refer them on to the best.
I wish you well and will continue to pray- you hang in there. Sometimes when you are too overwhelmed to pray, remember-you will be uplifted by all of your blogging friends and Christ Jesus the great interceder on your behalf.
Blessings,
Oh and the girls look great!!

I'll add my well wishes to the others. I will pray for strength and healing for you and Mr PQ and wisdom and skill for the doctors. Overall you are in God's hands and I will pray that grace and mercy be upon you.

Lucky you getting two for the price of one! And how exciting for the girls to be moving into their new home! I'm sure they're going to love it! Take care and know that we're all sending lots of good thoughts and prayers your way! :0)
Your chicken coop will be the best! You seem to have a positive outlook on things -- that is good. I think your new hens will be just what you need for a little happiness about now.
Hugs and prayers coming your way. I don't know about the soaps, but I did once know a farm neighbour who played classical music for his chickens. Those roses look lovely so there has been enough sunshine along with the rain down there.
Thanks for the update! Keeping you in my thoughts...especially on the 20th!! Hugs from me to you!
Paulette
PS...Sunny side up of course...thank you very much!!

Two for the price of one - oh Kaaren - you crack me up! I'll be praying for you especially hard on the 20th! So glad to know the girls are coming, and their house is almost ready...yes to the curtains but be careful with the tv, you don't want rotten eggs, lol! All those fried chicken commercials....
My dear Kaaren, I read very often, what's going on here with you and everything happened, I'm speechless, I wish you much more power and my best wishes. Many greetings from Germany by me.
I'll be thinking about you now and on the 20th. Keep your spirits up.
Those girls are gonna love their new home ~ you did a great job on making them comfy ~I'm sure they are gonna lay lots of eggs!!!
I like my eggs sunny side up!
Keep ya in my prayers
Prim Blessings

Thankyou for the update Karen, I will be sending prayers your way and that the doctors will do their best for you! These are the tough days....but they will determine the next stage of treatment.
I think Mr PQ has done a great job of creating a lovely cosy space for your new hens, they will love their new home and both of you will derive so much joy from having them be a part of your lives!!! It's probably the poshest chook pen I have ever seen! But I suppose with the winter snows you guys experience in the Northern Hemisphere they definitely need to be housed well. Again all the best for the 20th, my thoughts will be with you!
Warm Regards,
Your hens will be living the life of Riley! That is quite the hen house..the hens on this side of the Atlantic don't get that luxury! :o)
Glad to hear things are moving along and that you are getting all the tests and all. It sounds like you have some very sensible doctors caring for you. ((hugs))
Fingers crossed for you Kaaren. I hope you have a very long 'to do' list that will take forever to fulfill :) Best wishes, Jenny

Kaaren:
First of all - we love you. We are with you thru thick and thin. You have a slew of Artsy Fartsy people praying for you and sending well wishes. Know that when you go into that operating room, you are dragging a huge bunch of angels and suls to watch over you!!!!
As far as the "girls" go - I am so excited about this. What fun. Will "we" be naming these babes????? Cant wait to see pix of all your new family members!!!!
Your home is looking so beautiful. I have never been to N.S., but you sure make me want to come for a visit!!!!
xoxoxoxoxox
P.S. Please hug Mr. PQ. Tell him we love him too - for taking such good care of our girl.
Three hens and fresh eggs...sounds like fun! They will love their new home.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Waiting is tough but you have the right attitude - keep busy. Hope all goes well on the 20th.
Charlotte
You're in my prayers daily and I do pray this surgery goes well and that they've found the primary source. What a wonderful gift too of the hens. It looks like you have the perfect set up!
I think about you everyday, and hoping and praying for a speedy recovery.
I hope for the best on the 20th! Two for the price of one is good, saves you an anaesthasy.
Have fun with your hens!
You are in my prayers - keep those positive thoughts!
You will love having chickens-sometimes my hubby and I pull up the lawn chairs next to the chicken coop and just watch - better than soaps, and we get eggs, too!
You are going to LOVE having chickens and those Rhode Island reds are GREAT!!~~at least one egg per day per hen. :) Prepare to be in heaven with all the yummy REAL eggs to scramble, cakes and cookies are so much more moist and yummy! :)
Plus, just hearing the girls "cluck" around and do their thing is a gentle background noise that I really miss. And, NO BUGS! :) they love to eat the bugs. Oh, and all that stale bread, cereal, fruits, scraps, will be recycled.
Two for one is good! ~praying for you honey. Keep up the great attitude! :)
Sending good vibes to you for July 20th. Keeping hens should be an interesting experience and the fresh eggs will be great. Have you done this before? I'm wondering how you keep them warm enough in the winter.
Glad they are working the surgery into a twofer. Keeping prayers going here in Texas Kaaren.
Kaaren, You have been on my mind so much lately. I look up and see that dressmaker's pincushion and think of you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for positive steps forward that will get you back to the creative things you so enjoy. Plus those "girls" need you to make sure that TV gets installed so they can watch their soaps. LOL!
Praying your procedures will go well, and that you'll be able to get things taken care of. Wishing you the best. Enjoy your chickens!
I am sending prayers and big hugs your way Kaaren. Your hens are going to be very happy in their new home.
Hugs - Fee XX
Two for one is a sale, and we like sales. I say take it.
Then you will know for sure what is going on and where.
Next is set up for the plan of attack.
And what hand work do you have laid out for your relaxing/recovery time? We all know idle hands...
Nice looking laying hens. Need a rooster to be around for the gals. What about a penned up outside area to get a tan.
Thank you for updating us, we are concerned...Karencg
All the best for the 20th. Hope this "thing" can be sorted out soon enough.
My seat for the breakfast is reserved!
Thanks for the update. You are still a great inspiration to us all, even when life throws you some lemons!
A castle fit for queens!!! It will be fun to have something to get your mind off of "other" things. Hang in there.
Lucky chickens! I'll bring the blueberry muffins for breakfast! Just tell the big "C" you have no time for him, you have way too much yet to do. Kaaren you are in my thoughts everyday. Thanks so much for the update -- lots of folks appreciate that and send you loads of best wishes. Stay strong, stay busy, keep going even when you don't think you can. Mega hugs, Edie (formerly of Harlingen, TX now Nixa, MO) BTW, have you seen the news about the new BBD book?
Oh I wish I could come help with the girls! When I went to Australia my friend had those and I volunteered to feed and collect eggs every day!!!! I'm keeping you in my prayers about the other....
It looks like the girls house is a top notch hen house - happy chickens lay lots of eggs. Sending good thought your way for the 20th! Have a good weekend.
Kaaren, You have been in my thoughts and prayers. I will say a special prayer for you on the 20th. God bless you.
Oh, how wonderful to have the chickens. We include you in our prayers every night and will be thinking of you on the 20th.
I was so frightened when the doctor told me "you have cancer". But now I know that in our days, this word means normally only an illness that is possible to cure in most of the cases, so do not worry too much. There are lots of treatments, and also lots of things to do in this life. I really hope you will have luck. I love your home, it is a dream for me, but I do not think I will get one so here in Spain. It would be too expensive...think positive. Mabel.
My prayers are with you and your family and know there are many people who wish you health and happiness.
Karen, I've been out of the loop for awhile due to life issues and haven't kept up with the blogs I enjoy reading. Therefore, didn't realize you were having health problems. You will be in my prayers!
Thinking of you, Kaaren!
I am sure that we all would love to join you for breakfast!!
Thoughts & Prayers for
you and Mr PQ ~v~
Kaaren, My thoughts and prayers are with you - am just recovering from treatment myself and I am pleased that you have such a positive outlook. Keep it up and with that and all the prayers, everything will turn out fine.
Marie
